Right next to GMU!
I have tutored students in Math (Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Trigonometry) and Physics for several years now. I greatly enjoy the feeling of seeing the "light bulb" come on when I am able to clarify concepts for students.
I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Aeronautical Engineering. I have done lots and lots of math and science in my educational pursuits as well as professionally. I also have 3 adult children who I assisted in their academics.
I like to first focus on understanding the concepts. Too often, students understand the mechanics of solving the problems but not the physical laws (like Newton's laws) behind them. Once the student has a solid foundation, it's time to do problems - lots of them. I simply gently guide the student, as necessary, by asking leading questions. This approach is successful with most students.
Life is short. I think students of all ages enjoy a light-hearted approach to difficult concepts. Injection of humor helps keep tension low and facilitates progress.
I use a tablet computer to record my notes for each session. These notes are available online immediately after each session. Those notes are available to the student anytime.
My style seems to work best with students in HS and above.
