I am excited to help a student achieve success in any class in which he/she is struggling. Some information about me is I am a certified math teacher, currently teaching Algebra I, Discrete Math and Prob/Stat at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville. My wife and I currently live in Montpelier. In May 2013, I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. During graduate school, I had an assistantship where I tutored freshmen engineers and athletes in Calculus AB and Calculus BC. I held weekly tutoring sessions to answer questions and reteach confusing Calculus concepts.
In addition, I graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Mathematics Education. I would love to help students who are struggling in any subject ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus BC. These courses include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trig/Math Analysis, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB and Calculus BC. I am willing to tutor in Differential Equations, Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra as well.
In addition to helping students in Math, I would love to tutor students in English and English-related fields. I have had excellent education in writing skills, reading comprehension and discussion, and have taken numerous English classes at Virginia Tech. I would be willing to help students with their writing, reading or discussion.
I have experience substitute teaching for Fairfax County Public Schools as a math teacher and I tutored at Blacksburg Middle School and Blacksburg High School for fun while in college. Through my required student internships and student teaching, I have worked with students on Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II and Trigonometry. I am willing to help in any subject and have experience teaching every level.
Since I studied Mathematics at Virginia Tech, I was required to take Differential Equations. I took the class in 2010 and received an A in it as my final grade. I understand the concepts we went over and am willing to help the students who struggle with the material.
I have taken linear algebra at Virginia Tech as a requirement for my math major. I did very well in the class and I am very comfortable working with matrices and vectors to help solve problems. My class was online, so most of the material was self-taught, but I actually received tutoring in the class as well while taking it and my tutor helped me understand it in an applicable and effective way. Since I have this experience in the class, I believe I can help the students who are taking this class in an effective and applicable way as well.
I have taken courses in logic since middle school, so I am familiar with all the different types of fallacies and types of arguments that can be to be invalid or valid. I also have taken math courses in high school and at Virginia Tech that have used logic extensively in some lessons. I believe that with my experience and knowledge of the subject matter, I can help students who are struggling to grasp concepts and ideals of logic.
Due to being involved in many math courses and recently a few statistics courses, I have become familiar with probability and how to calculate probability based on given terms. My knowledge of the subject matter has helped me to achieve good grades in the classes in which probability is involved, most recently with statistics course. I believe I can help students who are struggling to understand probability and how to calculate it.
I took a semester long class in middle school on public speaking and the techniques and confidence I gained from that class I can convey to a student who is struggling with getting up and talking in front of people.
Also, I lead Wyldlife, which is a Christian ministry involved with middle schoolers. I actually give mini-sermons to them usually speaking in front of 40-60 kids so I have gained a lot of experience in public speaking from my ministry.
I know what to do and what not to do while public speaking, I know calming techniques and I have ways in which to practice public speaking so once you get up there to speak, you will be excellent.
