I am currently a college professor of English
, with expertise in teaching literature
, study skills
, and other liberal arts subjects.
I graduated from Williams College with a degree in English with honors and followed that passion to Sarah Lawrence College, where I graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Writing. As a professor, I have experience teaching basic English skills, as well as advanced critical reading and writing techniques. My teaching and tutoring philosophy
is based on encouraging students to explore their own voices while learning the fundamentals.
My students are challenged as well as supported; we work as a team to approach assignments with a can-do attitude. I have experience partnering with ADD/ADHD
Focus on time management
and study skills are also incorporated into each tutoring lesson. Knowing that no student is the same, I do not use prefabricated lesson plans. Each lesson is designed for your student, and your student alone.
I also help students prepare for the Reading and Writing portions of the SAT exam
and the Verbal portion of the GRE
exam. Typically, I work with students of all ages, elementary through graduate school.
I have a strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject of English and writing. I am available days, nights, and weekends for tutoring sessions. I look forward to meeting you, and answering any questions you might have.

During Manhattan's extreme heat wave last week, when there was nothing to do except sit in the arm chair next to my air conditioner, I decided to take all the unread books down from my bookshelf and create a summer reading list. There is some new fiction
and some classics that I never got around to. Here's my list!

My students and I are celebrating my first month with WyzAnt! Although I have tutored extensively in the past, these past 30 days with WyzAnt have been the most seamless tutoring experience so far.
I am loving getting connected with students all over the five boroughs, as well as Westchester!
Tutoring is an excellent way to get out and see the City. I've met with students in small coffee...
