A few things about me: I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and had a private therapy practice for 12 years in Texas. I am also a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach. I recently moved from Texas to Northern Virginia, to get married and become a step-mom. I love to laugh and tend to laugh quite loudly. I love eating chocolate chip cookies, going swimming, and hanging out with my dog—though not normally all at the same time. But, more than all of that, I love helping children, teenagers, and adults reach their full potential.
In tutoring, I use a strength-based approach - focusing on the student's positive experiences and strengths, as opposed to the student's problems, weaknesses, and shortcomings. First, I identify the strengths, positive educational experiences, and talents of each student. Then, I develop an individualized plan that recognizes and builds on a student's capabilities as a way to address any current challenges. And in the process of working together, I help the student to regain (or gain for the first time) the joy of learning and to experience optimism about the future.
I am available for help on a single assignment or preparation for an exam. I am most helpful, though, in situations where the student and I work together for a longer period of time. This allows me to get to know his or her strengths and develop a customized study plan.
Please read my subject qualifications for additional information about my training and my tutoring style. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I look forward to helping you or your child to get back on track and enjoy learning.
