You hire a tutor to explain a confusing subject to you in a way you can understand. Your tutor is your Daniel Boone, your guide through the wilderness. A good guide is one who has passed through the wilderness before and come out alive. You will find no one more experienced than I in the thickets of English, Spanish, and history.
Spanish: I received straight A's in all my undergraduate Spanish classes, and honed my skills by spending months in Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. I also served as a Spanish interpreter for fifteen years in a personal injury law firm. I can show you how to avoid ever making a mistake in Spanish spelling, explain regular and irregular verb conjugations, how to use the Spanish subjunctive mood, the simple and easy ways to learn Spanish noun genders, and how to use cognates to turn English words into Spanish and back again.
History: I have a Bachelor of Arts in history from Missouri Southern State University with summa cum laude honors, and a Master of Arts in European history from George Mason University, also summa cum laude, with a master's thesis on Calvinist economic doctrine. I have supplemented this education with years of independent study of all aspects of European, American, and world history. The key I will show you is to approach history as a story or drama, not as a list of unrelated dates and events; you will no more forget the key points of history as I teach it than you will forget the plot of your favorite movie.
English: My score on the Graduate Record Exam (the entrance exam for graduate school) was in the highest 1% of all test takers. I can show you the elements of English grammar, how to decipher unfamiliar words by using their Greek or Latin roots, and construct concise, punchy sentences.
My methods: At our first meeting, you will tell me about yourself: what kind of learner you are, why you are studying this subject, what problems you are having in learning it, and what results you hope to achieve. Then you will tell me about the teacher, and show me the syllabus, the textbooks, and any graded tests or papers you have already received in the course, so I can assess the teacher's methods and demands. Then we will make a tutoring plan designed especially to make you a success in your course! You can expect to improve your command of the subject right away.
