Hi, my name is Chaunise. I have a bachelor's in Mathematics and a master's in adolescent education. I am certified to teach math for grades 7-12 and 5-6. I have tutored professionally as well as privately for both male and female students of all ages and personalities.

I love math immensely, but I understand that not all students feel the same and that quite a few students (and lots of people in general) cringe at just the thought of it. I don't expect my students to be as excited about math as I am, but simply to try and have fun with it! My goal is for them to appreciate the vast ways that math enhances our everyday lives and to reach a point where they have a solid enough command of it that they don't have to fear math, and can instead use it to their benefit.

During the summer (July and August) I am available for any students who may want some one-on-one tutoring to help pass summer school, get a head start on the upcoming school year or study for a specific test that they need to take.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in education. I am certified to teach math for grades 7-12. I took several advanced level Algebra classes in college and tutored the math portion of the SAT for Kaplan, which tests a lot of the initial topics taught in Algebra. I am very familiar with how to use the calculators that students are allowed to use on their end of year exams.

Prealgebra

I am a New York State certified math teacher with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. I took advanced level algebra classes in college. I have tutored students from the upper elementary grades in math and have a very solid understanding of and ability to explain numerical properties and strategies that immediately precede Algebra topics.

SAT Math

I am a Virginia State certified Math teacher with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I proctor the SAT exams several times a year, so I am very familiar with most current format, rules, and procedures of the exam. I tutored the math portion of the SAT exam through Kaplan for over a year and am very familiar with it's break down, grading policy, and content. Having worked with so many students to prepare for the math portion of the exam, I have a host of helpful hints and insight that can really make a difference in how students approach the exam and test day.

Great Tutor — Last evening my son completed his first session, I asked him afterwards, how is she? he responded "she's good, I learned some things and I understand the areas I was having problems in". Very positive response from just the first session. ...
