I have a BBA in Computer Information Systems from Howard University (1982) and a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Marist College (1991). I was a 1985 recipient of the Outstanding Young Men of America Award. I served professionally as a computer programmer for more than 20 years and am currently career changing into the medical field. I have also completed Pre-Med studies (2003) and I'm currently in the process of completing an official BS Biology degree focusing on molecular biology. My ultimate desire is to offer a potential contribution to the overall cure for cancer. I would also like to complete a Masters / PhD in molecular biology. I have passionately tutored math and science since 1984 and will continue to encourage students to be the absolute best that they can be.

I have had the wonderful privilege of tutoring math and science part time, at all levels, to students (K-12) since 1984. My experience enables me to quickly ascertain each student's best learning style (visual, audible, or a combination) and then teach accordingly. This quality is essential to facilitate the learning process as it is directly evidenced by each student's measurable progress and self-confidence. Many students also develop additional learning styles in this process. I also engage each student to become comfortable enough to present his or her topic of study to someone else. Some of my former students now teach others.

So, I am passionate with each student regarding his or her subject matter and encourage each one ultimately to consider passing on the knowledge to someone else thereby enhancing our global society.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored many students all levels of math, including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus as well as ACT and SAT math. I know how to present the material to students in an understandable fashion.

Algebra 1

I teach from elementary math to calculus, but I find many students need assistance with Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. I am adept at helping students understand the material in a very methodical fashion. I teach every aspect of Algebra and know how to teach each student according to his or her learning style. I have been tutoring students in Algebra since 1984 and have literally worked with and helped hundreds of students.

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 since 1984 and I know how to effectively communicate the material in a fashion understandable to each student at his or her level. All my students who have done what I have asked them to do have been successful with the course material and I have worked with hundreds of students over the years. Those who deviate and choose not to be diligent tend not to be as successful.

ASVAB

I have experience helping a few youngsters pass the ASVAB exam. I have tutored math and science since 1984 and know how to present the material, so that each student can understand how it relates and have success.

Biology

I have tutored Biology concepts to many students over the years. I have completed Pre Med studies and I know how to present the subject matter to my students. Special areas include (Genetics, Mitosis, Meiosis, Organelles, Cellular Respiration, etc.).

Chemistry

I have tutored chemistry to many students and I know how to effectively communicate the material to facilitate the learning process. I can teach the broad spectrum of chemistry topics (Equilibrium, Solution chemistry, colligative properties, Stoichiometry, Reaction Rates (Kinetics), Acids and Bases, Enthropy, etc.).

COBOL

I have a BBA in Management Information Systems and an MS in Computer Science. I used COBOL for many of my undergrad projects, including one of my advanced programming courses, which used COBOL. I also programmed using COBOL professionally as an independent contractor. One of the many projects I used COBOL for was a Y2K project with PEPCO in Washington, DC to prevent many of their existing programs from crashing when handling data beyond 1999.

Computer Programming

I have a BBA and MS in computer science and have done computer programming for 20+ years. I have written many programs, so I am very familiar with developing structured algorithms using pseudocode as well as using flowcharting.

GED

I have had the opportunity to encourage many young adults to pursue the GED and pass it, so that they can position themselves for a promising future. I am able to present the material to each student in an understanding fashion according to his or her learning style and ability.

Geometry

Geometry incorporates many Algebra 1 concepts to help determine measurements of various structures (polygons, circular parts, etc.). I am able to present this material to students in a methodical fashion to facilitate understanding.

Nutrition

I took several nutrition couses at the University of the District of Columbia UDC) and Northern Virginia Community College. It was my major at UDC before I decided to switch to molecular biology to ultimately focus on cancer research, of which nutrition plays a major part in cancer prevention/cure. I understand how different foods are processed by the human body and possible effects on the body. For example and important particularly for diabetics, certain foods have a specific Glycemic index, which is an important factor in helping regulate blood sugar levels. Also, the body can convert a high fat diet to needed glucose to carry on glycolysis, but will ultimately end up in ketone body buildup, which would not be good in terms of body pH. Saturated fat contains hydrocarbons without any double bonds and too much can wreck havoc on the body in terms of overall health, etc...

Pharmacology

I have completed undergraduate pharmacology and graduate pharmacology in pharmacy school, which enables me to understand and teach basic pharmacology. I understand dosage calculations, some drug to drug interactions, etc. I understand drug classifications and potential effects on body systems.

Prealgebra

I have taught prealgebra and algebra in a methodical fashion to many students. I am able to teach each student according to his or her level of understanding, so that the confidence level increases. I have extensive experience in working with students with different backgrounds and personalities. I am able to gain each student's trust, so that the learning process is facilitated.

Precalculus

I have helped many students with Pre-calculus concepts over several years to include Algebra II and Trigonometry topics. I know how to present the material in an understandable fashion to each student, based upon learning style and current level of understanding.

SAT Math

I have tutored many students all levels of math, including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus as well as ACT and SAT math. I know how to present the material to students in an understandable fashion. I have taught most of my college bound students SAT math.

TEAS

I am familiar with the TEAS format and I know the subject matter well including pharmacology, college chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, nutrition, medical terminology, Physics, English, and Calculus 2 mathematics from completing Pre Med studies. I also volunteered for 2 years in the Progressive Care Wing at Prince William Hospital.

Great tutor and patient!!! — We are a prior military family that just moved to Gainesville, unfortunately the last school district we were in was far behind most schools in VA. My daughter is in the 10th grade, and is taking PreAP Algebra. She was struggling because she wasn't taught certain concepts coming from our old school district and her current teacher assumes the students should already know this and doesn't take to ...
