Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

As an Oxford student in mathematics, I took advanced courses on mathematical methods in physics and electrical engineering. These courses involved learning the techniques, both analytical and numerical, for solving ordinary, partial, and non-linear differential equations including Green's function techniques. I have also helped both undergraduate and graduate students on Physics and Electrical Engineering courses. These courses involved solving differential equations related to applications in physics and electrical engineering.

Linear Algebra (Vectors and Matrices) can be applied to solutions of Differential Equations.

MATLAB relieves the tedium of calculating solutions. I now use FreeMat, a free version of MATLAB.

DOS

I am a DBA. That means I often need to manipulate servers and users workstations. As such I am a domain admin.

I script installs and code releases using DOS scripting since it is guaranteed to be available. I work for a hosting company and the client may insist, or we may, that CSH or WSH be disabled/removed.

Linear Algebra

As an Oxford student in Mathematics, I took courses in mathematical methods which can be applied to physics and engineering. These courses included fundamental theory and techniques (including numerical) of linear algebra and its applications to engineering and physics.

Linear Algebra (Vectors and Matrices) can be applied to solutions of Differential Equations.

MATLAB relieves the tedium of calculating solutions. I now use Freemat, a free version of MATLAB.

Microsoft Access

I worked at Computer Associates as an Access DBA. I also supported VBA there.

Microsoft Excel

I teach basic Excel functions in all versions of Excel, as well as certain advanced functions and concepts.

I teach Pivot Tables as this is a powerful tool to analyze data. Many people find Pivot Tables a hard concept, but I have been successful in fixing that.

In addition, database systems, such as SQL Server 2012, may provide data in a Pivot Table and so it is important to be able to deal with them.

Oracle

I am a Data-Base Administrator who has worked on SQL Server and Oracle Databases for over 10 years. I deal with developers who only know one flavor of SQL.

I like to teach what is common to both and to point out when something is different.

SQL

SQL Server DBA with 9 years experience.
