My four earned degrees from University of Oxford, England, are enhanced by 20+ years of teaching and tutoring experience in math, sciences and engineering.

I hold a State Teacher’s License with Postgraduate Professional Certificate, VA (continuously since 1992) with endorsements in math, physics and chemistry; in addition, I am licensed as a Professional Engineer (continuously since 1990).

My teaching levels include: secondary (middle school, high school), tertiary (college, university), postgraduate (professional licensure, CEU), and test preparation (SOL, SAT, ACT, GRE).

What I Enjoy Most About Teaching: The opportunity to produce excellence on every occasion, as reflected in my 100% passing scores, plus multiple advanced and perfect scores, in SOL tests. It is always a delight to see students prevail and triumph, a sentiment expressed by my motto, "Individualization Means All Achieve Success" ©.

My son had to take a college level Physics class for the first time this semester. He had not taken any related classes in high school and struggled with the teacher's teaching methods and assignments. Many of the assignments were lengthy and on material that was not thoroughly covered in the classroom. After some missed homework and bad quiz grades we solicited some help from Saami and almost immediately saw improvement in my son's understanding of the material, being able to complete his homework, and a "B" on his first test. We really appreciate Sammi's help. He is great to work with, easy to reach, and flexible with our schedule. Thanks so much Saami!

Thanks so much for the exceptionally quick response! My son was very pleased with your knowledge and instruction. We are looking forward to future sessions. We are so pleased to have someone with such professional behavior and background!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra is defined in OED as being the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations.

Algebra 1 begins with expressions and operations, followed by equations and inequalities. These topics are developed in a progression towards the last major area in Algebra 1, namely an introduction to functions. [Note: In Virginia, the Algebra 1 Standards of Learning (SOL) have been modified recently to include some statistics at the end.]

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Algebra 1.

Algebra is defined in OED as being the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations.

Algebra 2 expands the material in Algebra 1 by examining more advanced variations of the topics in Algebra 1. Arithmetic and geometric sequences are studied, along with complex numbers which involve the quantity i. The type of statistics found in Algebra 2 includes an introduction to mathematical models for best fit, plus direct and inverse variation. Properties of the normal distribution are examined, and the topic of probability is covered. The latter is accompanied by associated material involving permutations and combinations.

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Algebra 2.

Calculus is defined in OED as being the branch of mathematics that deals with the finding and properties of derivatives and integrals of functions, by methods originally based on the summation of infinitesimal differences. The two main types are differential calculus and integral calculus.

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Calculus.

Geometry is defined in OED as being the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogues.

Geometry is notable for being a particularly rigorous subject within the field of math at the secondary level. This rigor begins with an understanding of logic and reason, as stepping stones to geometric proofs. The properties of simple objects, such as points and lines, are determined and a number of standard constructions are performed. Topics involving triangles, polygons and circles are considered before concluding with various three-dimensional figures.

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Geometry.

Physics is defined in OED as being the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms.

Physics has also been described as "the study of matter and energy and of the interaction between the two".

My extensive experience as a science teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking physics at all levels within the secondary and tertiary environments.

Algebra is defined in OED as being the part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations.

Prealgebra is a precursor to algebra, in that prealgebra begins the transition from arithmetic (numbers) to algebra (symbols).

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Prealgebra.

Precalculus is defined in OED as being a course in mathematics that prepares a student for calculus, which in turn is defined as the branch of mathematics that deals with the finding and properties of derivatives and integrals of functions, by methods originally based on the summation of infinitesimal differences. The two main types are differential calculus and integral calculus.

Content in precalculus courses typically involves the expansion of previous material from algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Exponential and logarithmic functions receive particular attention because of their importance in calculus later.

My extensive experience as a math teacher and tutor for more than 20 years includes working with many students taking Precalculus.

Trigonometry is defined in OED as being the branch of mathematics dealing with the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and with the relevant functions of any angles.

Most trigonometry courses begin with the study of two ratios known as sine and cosine, and the quotient of these is another ratio known as tangent. The reciprocals of these three ratios produce another three ratios, and values for all six ratios are determined for standard points on the unit circle. Graphs of the ratios are considered, along with the use of the law of sines and the law of cosines.
