I have been teaching principles of accounting for the past 7 years to adults who have no previous accounting knowledge. I also taught an Intro to Business class to high school students. This class included sections on Accounting, Economics, Communication, and Team Building. In addition, I was a long-term sub for a Freshman English class. I also have experience teaching elementary students.

I strive to make the class experience a fun one. For example, while teaching the high school business class, we would play games to help the students study for tests. While teaching elementary computer, we would play a game I called "keyboard Bingo" to help the students learn the keyboard.

I am extremely patient and will work with your student until they understand the material, no matter how long it takes. If one method doesn't seem to be working, we'll change until we find something that does work.

My background includes leading web based seminars, on-site workshops, and on the job training. I also have experience in technical writing and enjoy writing.

My education is in business administration. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from both George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College.

Algebra 1

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft PowerPoint

English

Punctuation, word usage, spelling, writing papers, vocabulary, turning nebulous thoughts into concrete words on paper...these are all things that I can help you with if you are struggling with English.

Accounting

I have been teaching fundamentals of accounting for the past 7 years to a diverse audience. I have a very solid grasp of debits and credits, the chart of accounts, and various financial reports.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught elementary students for a year. in that role, I created lesson plans, taught the subject matter, gave tests, and interfaced with the parents. I love teaching children how to read, elements of math, spelling, and vocabulary. I make the lessons fun for the kids, so they enjoy learning. I have worked as a teacher's aide, teaching first and second grade. My duties included formatting lesson plans, grading homework, and leading a reading group.

Study Skills

My level of study skills is self-evident in the fact that I graduated Summa Cum Laude from a major university after having been out of high school for over 10 years. I developed a pattern for studying for tests, for taking notes, and for doing homework that allowed me to be very successful in my academic career.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL for 3 years as a volunteer. During that time, I taught one year to new speakers. These were students who had little to no English. I utilized a series of flash cards, tactile exercises, and repetition to teach English. We worked on phrases such as "Hi. My name is.." and "How are you". The last 2 years, I taught at a higher level. We spent more time on conversation and grammar. The final year was spent helping my students study for the TOEFL.

Business

My undergraduate degree is in business administration. As such, I have taken courses in finance, accounting, marketing, IT, English, and economics. I have used my business degree to great advantage in my professional life. I have worked as an accountant and as a financial support specialist. I have also authored an end user's manual.

Public Speaking

Part of my degree includes coursework in Communications. During my undergraduate work, I was the runner up in a public speaking competition. In my prior job, I hosted multiple web-based seminars. I also led on-site workshops and conducted on the job training seminars. I have public speaking experience, leading Women's sunday school classes for 3 years.

Microsoft Access

I have a great depth of experience in using MS Access. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I took and passed with an "A", multiple, relational database classes.

In addition, I have created multiple databases. I have experience writing complex queries, creating forms and reports, and exporting the data from Access into Excel.

Microsoft Outlook

I have used Microsoft Outlook for over 10 years. I have extensive experience in managing contacts, adding (and editing)calendar events, and using the Tasks feature to track my work. In addition, I regularly use the notes and journal to keep salient details at my fingertips. While a student at Northern Virginia Community College, I took and passed with an "A" a course in MS Office, which included a chapter on Outlook.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using the Microsoft Platform for many years. My experience includes creating new folders on the desktop, resizing windows, adding tools to the tool bar, and changing the desktop theme.

As part of my undergraduate course work, I took, and passed with an "A", a course on the Microsoft office suite of products. One of the chapters dealt with the Windows environment.
