My name is Claire and I recently retired from teaching AP English to 11th graders. I have also taught 12th grade. I have a Bachelor degree in English and an M. Ed from George Mason University. I am personable and relate well to teenagers and adults.
In addition to tutoring, I substitute teach. I have tutored people who are foreign born and studying higher education, such as graduate and Ph. D work. I am well versed in American Classics and the rhetoric of argument and persuasion.
I look forward to meeting you!
Here are a couple of references from former students:
I am a former student of Mrs. E and am now attending
Virginia Tech. I have had many teachers over the years but Mrs. E is
definitely one teacher who has had made a huge impact on me, both academically and as a role model. Being in her class resulted in me being exempt from first semester of English in College and because of what I learned I feel very prepared and comfortable in the English
class in which I am right now. She teaches really effectively in an easy to understand way and with passion. Mrs. E is also a great role model/mentor and taught me a lot of things without saying a word, but instead leading by example. Obaid R.
Mrs. E really helped me improve my writing. As I walked into class on
the first day of school, I thought I was a very talented writer. Then, I wrote my first essay for Mrs. E I found that she held me to a higher standard, one that I had the potential of reaching but had not reached
yet. She helped me transform my potential into ability. I spent countless hours after school with her so I could receive more help. I found that her advice made sense and was applicable to my writing. I wrote around 30 essays as I applied to sixteen colleges and found that the use of rhetoric I learned from my time with Mrs. E was very important. I am very thankful to have had her and credit her with my success in AP English Literature as well as the college admissions process. Shaan K.
