I have earned a BS in Computer Science, with a very strong math minor. It would have been a double major, but third-year theoretical math stopped being fun. However, math up to and including first year calculus was both straightforward and mostly fun. Since graduation, I have worked with computers, systems administration and programming, but I have lost none of the math I learned as high as high school algebra and geometry and basic calculus.

I enjoy teaching and explaining many things to individuals and small groups, although my tutoring experience is somewhat limited. I can communicate in different styles with different people, based on how I see they can learn most effectively. Seeing the "Aha!" expression when a student has grasped a topic, especially when he or she has been frustrated, is one of my greatest rewards. Especially in math, I believe that many people find it difficult because somebody told them that math was difficult (and they believed that), or because they missed one step along the way, and everything thereafter was impenetrable.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

I have programmed in C, C++, and C#, as well as other languages, probably 15 years in total. My debugging skills are very good, and I can help others design algorithms and implement them in code.

Elementary (K-6th)

I enjoy explaining things, with alternate wording or concepts or approaches if necessary. I have taught small groups of elementary students in various subjects and settings, and I have worked with individuals. I patiently reinforce and remind students about what we've covered, emphasizing being careful when reading (for accuracy and comprehension) and when working arithmetic problems (to avoid careless mistakes).

Praxis

My math background and knowledge are more than sufficient for that portion of the exam, as evidenced by my scores on the WyzAnt math tests. I have no problem with reading comprehension (literal and inferential), as shown by my performance on the reading/understanding/comprehension tests for the ACT, SAT, PSAT, GRE, and GED exams. I am adequately proficient in writing, although I have no recent quantification of that skill.

Diane, I'm sure you were given formulas for these quantities. Here they are again (π is the Greek letter pi): C (circle)     = 2 π r A (circle)     = π r2 V (cylinder) = At = π r2 t Just plug in your values and round appropriately.

This rate is the ratio of the number of incomplete records and the number of discharges for the period. rate = # incomplete / # discharges        = 234 / 1051

This looks like it should be a double-angle rule: sin(2x) = 2 sin x cos x The double-angle rules derive from the sum formulas sin (a + b) = sin a cos b + cos a sin b          and cos (a + b) = cos a cos b - sin a sin b by setting b = a sin...
