I have a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. This education included virtually enough for a Bachelor's in Mathematics. In addition I have approximately 40 years work experience in the aerospace field, most of it designing hardware, which always involves significant math.

I am currently retired but have always enjoyed working with younger engineers and have often acted as their mentors. This may have been as an official position, but usually just happened by itself since I never minded interruptions to help them and never criticized them for what they did not know - we all have many things we don't know.

Linear Algebra

During my third year of college vector analysis was drilled into me in both advanced calculus and electrical engineering courses and proved invaluable during my engineering career.

Similarly matrices and arrays were also stressed and were very useful for both simple problems and complex simulations.

I have a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and have been employed in the field of electro-optics for over 40 years. Electro-optics is a field that combines Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and Optics.

Mathematica

I purchased my first Mathematica license in 1989 and have been using Mathematica ever since. As an engineer it was invaluable for doing modeling and simulations. I found it especially valuable for numerical integration problems pertaining to the propagation of light. Mathematica has also been very useful when tutoring students in calculus and differential equations.
