My strength is describing difficult concepts in a way different from textbooks and classroom teachers. I had thirty years as a professional engineer in the Navy augmented with another decade as an engineering manager. With both bachelor's and master's engineering degrees, I have taken more mathematics courses than most math majors. With a lifetime of reading, writing and observance of history, I am available most hours and can cover most subjects.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

Having been a Baptist minister for several years (working in a bivocational setting) I have pastored and taught Bible extensively. I am familiar and have used various versions and am able to go directly to the Greek and Hebrew to discover the meanings of original text language. I can use a full range of concordances including Young's, Strongs, and the Englishman's. I am familiar with concordances as well as Biblical history and the history of the canon.

Discrete Math

Having spent much of my life in engineering, the use of discrete math has been a necessity of sorts, arising from the need to use a digital, or counting, approach to quantifying continuous items. The use of set theory which involves integer items has been explored in solving various combinational issues where items (or individuals) may be counted in more than one way.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have raised four children and now have a hand in raising eight grandchildren. Several are special needs. Giving kids a different way of looking at things is a specialty. Elementary subjects are a comfortable element of my significant knowledge in math, English, and other diverse subjects. I also have bachelor's and master's engineering degrees.

Public Speaking

I have done a considerable amount of public speaking in my professional life as a program manager and my ecclesiastical role as a minister. I have made presentations at all levels of government and the military and been an effective advocate for the things I believed. I understand the process of public speaking and can relay the fundamentals involved in preparing and delivering speeches in all types of settings and conditions.

Religion

While my expertise is Christianity, I am familiar with the various world religions, their history (along with the civil history that corresponds). I am conversant with most of the concepts behind the major world religions and have a conversational fluency with their holy texts.

SOL

With a master's degree in electrical engineering, I have a significant background in mathematics and in the sciences. I substitute teach in the public school system and have tutored in English. SOL includes just a small subset of topics for which I am able to teach in depth.

Study Skills

Having completed high school, a bachelor's and master's program in electrical engineering as well as managing large teams, I have acquired proficiency in assessing application problems, and transfering work habit skills. My vast lifetime experience can also give perspective to a number of motivational issues that might be in the way of study in any number of topics.
