As a classroom teacher, I introduce a lot of hands-on activities to my students. I truly believe that students can have fun while they are learning mathematics! I use online resources as well. I constantly search for sites that are interactive and engaging for students. I have taught Math 7 and 8, Pre-Algebra and/or Algebra I for the last 18 years. I have also taught English 6, Social Studies, and Civics in the Middle School setting.

I have had the pleasure of teaching and tutoring Consumer Math, Algebra II, Geometry, and College Calculus, College English and College Writing.

I was an instructor for a Summer School Community Reading Camp and Math Lab. I have been a Homebound Instructor.

My tutoring has also been expanded to evening sessions for a community church for 2nd – 8th grades in all subject areas.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 for the last 4 years. My most recent success rate was the 2011-2012 school year. Although the state of Virginia implemented new SOL objectives, my students had a 90% pass rate!

Algebra 2

I haven't had much experience teaching Algebra 2, but I am very knowledgable with the content. (I received a perfect score on the WyzAnt test to be certified in this subject for tutoring)

Grammar

I made straight A's on ALL grammar-related assignments throughout my college English courses. I taught English for the first 2 years of my teaching career.

Microsoft Excel

I use Microsoft Excel on a regular basis. I have taken computer classes for formal training as well. I am able to use formula, insert graphs and charts, and am extremely comfortable explaining its usage to others.

Geometry

I have tutored high school and college students in Geometry. I also taught Geometry to Middle School students as well as high school.

Microsoft Word

I use Microsoft Word on a daily basis. I create flyers, brochures, and many other forms of advertisements using this software.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have had training in Microsoft PowerPoint. I am very knowledgeable in the applications. I know how to insert pictures, sound, and animations. I have created many presentations over the years using this software.

Prealgebra

I have taught Pre-Algebra for over 15 years. I am extremely comfortable with the new VA standards of learning; I have a high pass rate each year in this content area.

Statistics

I have worked with the Statistics section of the 2009 Algebra 1 Standards of Learning. I have also worked with College students taking statistics courses. I am very comfortable helping students with this topic.

SAT Math

I have taught Math for over 15 years. I have taught Math 7, Math 8, Consumer Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry. I have tutored students working on Geometry and College Calculus.

Spelling

I graduated with an initial degree in Elementary Education. Some of my coursework included lessons on how to teach students how to spell. I am typically a great speller. I would be very comfortable helping students as needed.

ACT Math

The ACT Math test covers Arithmetic, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate and Plane Geometry, as well as Trigonometry. I am able to help with the preparation of this test as I have been able to help students with college prep mathematics tests in the general.

Elementary Math

My initial degree was in Elementary Education with a Specialty in Mathematics. Math has always been my first passion in teaching.
