History has been a hobby of mine for over a decade. In both undergraduate and graduate school, I took history courses on a variety of topics - Russia, Europe, and America among them. I have read many books on the subject, both popular and academic, and even was a member of a student organization that would discuss issues of American history, world history, and political philosophy.
Whether you need to understand the causes that led to the Revolutionary War and the writing of the Declaration of Independence; American expansion West and what it meant for the Native populations; the roots of the Civil War and the legacy of slavery in the US; American involvement in the World Wars and the subsequent the Cold War period; or any of the other myriad fascinating topics and eras of American history, I can help!
I have a good command of the basic components of elementary math, including algebra and geometry. I also have several years experience teaching and tutoring adults and children in various fields. Thus I am able to help elementary and middle school children who need additional help with their math classes.
I am an ESL teacher with three years of experience working and living abroad. During this time I worked with adults and children, at all levels, from beginner to advanced. I have also worked as a teaching assistant at the university level in the US, during which time I helped students with their papers, both in form (grammar and vocabulary) and content (arguments and presentation of evidence). Whether you need help with elementary English, academic/university English, or English as a Second Language, I would love to work with you!
I am a very experienced ESL tutor. I taught ESL in Moscow, Russia for three years. I worked for both a private school, where I taught groups of between 4-12 students conversational and communicative English at varying levels - from beginner to advanced. I also worked with private students, where I helped businesspeople improve their written and spoken English, teenagers study for exams, and adults who wanted to learn English as a means of communicating with the global community.
I also worked both with textbooks (New English File) and designed my own lessons tailored to the needs of my students.
If you are in need of an English language tutor, either in written or spoken English, look no further!
In both my undergraduate and graduate education I took classes on history - American, European, and World. Areas of expertise pertaining to European history include Russia/Eastern Europe, and the 20th century. I have also read many books, academic and popular, on various topics of European history, including all periods of Russian history, the First and Second World Wars, the Cold War, and political/economic theory of the 19th century. This, combined with my general experience teaching and tutoring, makes me qualified to tutor in this field.
I have studied several languages in my life. Through the study of foreign language, I have gained a deeper understanding of English grammar. I am also a former ESL teacher, and have direct experience explaining English grammar in a clear, direct, and concise manner. If you need help with grammar, either as an elementary or an ESL student, I can help!
Throughout my own education, I have read and analyzed over 1000 texts on subjects from literary works to politics, history, and sociology. I have worked as an ESL tutor, during which time I helped adults and children in all areas of communication, including reading comprehension. If your child needs help with reading, as ESL or a general subject, or you need help understanding high school or college-level texts, contact me!
I spent nearly ten years studying Russia, in both undergraduate and graduate school, with a BA in Russian Language and civilization and an MA in political science and history with a focus on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. While in undergrad, I spent a year abroad in Moscow, Russia, and subsequently returned a year later upon completion of my degree. During this time I traveled to over a dozen cities in Russia and embraced everything Russia has to offer, both linguistically and culturally.
After working and living in Russia for four years, I returned to the US for my master's, and took the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages oral proficiency exam. I was scored as Superior, which was the highest level at the time. Since I took the exam, one more level, Distinguished, has been added. Although I never retook the exam, I was told by professors and my Russian peers that I would most likely have scored as distinguished, as well.
Finally, I worked as a TA in grad school, teaching Russian language to undergrad students.
If you want to learn Russian, either for a class or as a way of broadening your horizons, I have the cultural and linguistic proficiency, and the experience, to help you on your journey to uncovering the wonders of Rus'.
As a former ESL teacher, I have worked with children and adults in English vocabulary acquisition. As someone with a Master's degree, I have a strong command of English vocabulary up to the academic level. If you are looking for a tutor, either in ESL or in test preparation, I can help!
If you need help improving the clarity and consciousness of your writing, I can help! While teaching ESL abroad for three years, I worked with many Intermediate, Advanced, and Proficient students to improve their writing, whether in personal correspondence, business correspondence, or college-level essays. I also hold a master's degree in political science from UW Madison, during which time I worked on my own writing skills and improved them to academic standards. This, coupled with my years of experience in teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects, means that whether you need help with a high-school essay, college essay, or as an ESL student, I'm the tutor for you!
