I am a recent graduate of the University of Michigan and NYU Law School, currently employed in D.C. as a lawyer. I specialize in LSAT and bar exam (particularly MBE) preparation. I took the LSAT twice, receiving a 170 the first time and improving through self-study to a 180 over three months. I have scored in the 99th percentile on the GRE, SAT, and ACT. I can also help with general writing skills, cover letters, resumes, and proofreading, particularly in the law school or legal employment context.
My approach is one that focuses on individual needs: every person will have nuanced strengths and difficulties in dealing with any test or skill, and I feel the best strategy must build on those strengths while targeting the weaknesses for improvement. In case of the LSAT, for example, maximum improvement in your score might be achieved by finding a rigorous approach to the logic games, or improving your speed and concentration on the reading comprehension section. For the MBE portion of the bar exam, you might need to anticipate the common tricks used for multiple choice questions, or find a more effective study strategy for the substantive law.
Having been through the trials and travails of LSAT prep, law school, and a successful legal job search, I can be a valuable resource as you embark on that journey as well.
I am a graduate of NYU Law School and a member of the bar, having passed the bar exam for the State of New York. My scaled score on the Multistate Bar Exam portion (the only score revealed to passing exam takers) was 178.7--in the 99.9th percentile.
In tutoring for the bar exam, the approach must be customized based on where each student is taking the test, since a large portion of it can vary significantly by state. However, the MBE is consistent and used by most states. My style in tutoring for the MBE involves focusing on small details of the substantive law that can affect the result of a bar exam hypothetical, and strategies to weed out tempting wrong answers that might include some correct law but not the whole truth, or are not applicable to the facts given. I also have a specific strategy for attacking state-specific essay questions that will result in a substantial number of points even when the test taker does not have complete knowledge of the underlying law.
