I am here to help you reach your academic goals. I have over 20 years of experience in customized tutoring and specialized instruction. I create custom tutorials for elementary, high school and college students with CompEdPlan in Washington, DC. I work with students at school, in home, at libraries and wherever is conducive to academic studies. As an instructor at the the university and college levels, I have the teaching and communications experience with students of all levels. My services include: learning English basics (formal versus informal usage), subject pronouns, verb conjugation, forming plurals, contractions, indefinite articles, basic sentence construction, date and time, cultural specific holidays, etc. Students will gain practical experience through Interpersonal modes of communication where they initiate, participate in oral and written exchange. Students also will become familiar with Interpretive modes of language communication where they are able to identify main ideas and interpret cultural specific information. Students will learn to interpret verbal and non verbal cues to differentiate between complex sentences and questions.
Additionally, I offer a wide range of speech, language and academic services. I create or can refer students for evaluations and screenings. Through nurturing one on one tutoring my goal is to maximize each student's strengths and help overcome his or her challenges in cooperation with parents and other professionals. Speech, language, social communication and learning disorders have been my expertise. Tutoring services are available at academic facilities such as schools or libraries, or in your home. I develop tutorials and implement a plan of action according to the student’s individual needs and learning style. The plan may be based on our evaluation, a review of outside evaluation reports and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), or both. I also accept Compensatory Education plans.
For Homeschooled Children:
If you teach your children at home, and have a struggling learner, I will serve as a consultant on issues related to speech-language, social and learning difficulties. Homeschooling parents often find my services are an effective alternative to public school special education programs. Your teaching methods can be tailored to your child’s unique style of learning. I will help facilitate an environment free of the labels, social pressures, and distractions found in a regular classroom. I will show parents/teachers ways to carryover activities to the homeschool setting.
I have experience working with ADD/ADHD children through work with CompEdPlan---where specialized instruction takes place. I work with DCPS students implementing compensatory education plans---providing customized tutorials. I am familiar with 504 plans, IEPs, and have tools and techniques to aid in the academic improvement of students with ADD/ADHD.
I am certified to provide Specialized Instruction to students with special needs. I have vast experience with students with dyslexia, as well as students with communication disorders. I actively supervise and design tutorials to assist students of all ages with various levels of achievement needs.

I play the piano by ear, but am trained to play music by sight. I have experience in multiple genres regarding music history. For example, the importance of jazz to music culture and how Paris and other cities abroad greatly impacted the success of jazz in the USA. I also have great knowledge of how Negro spirituals evolved into popular gospel music that is still enjoyed today. I have traced the history and roots of jazz and blues to gospel and the early music of slaves brought from Africa. I have a great working knowledge of music history from several eras and centuries.
I am a communications educator and specialist and work with elementary and high school students who need assistance with reading. I work with students and adult clients who have communication issues relating to speaking and reading. I have experience assisting students with the basics of phonics and mastering drills. I prepare customized tutorials and take my students through the basics of phonics to more advanced drills. I use digital aids as well as flashcards; there is always a thorough assessment done first.
