My tutoring philosophy: no one learns anything well if I just tell them the answer. Instead, using diagrams and pictures, I like to ask many questions, helping students figure things out in their own minds. This leads to deep, lasting knowledge, and more importantly, sharpened critical thinking and reasoning skills. The ultimate goal is that a student no longer needs me, because he or she has the tools to reason through tough problems and figure it out by himself or herself.
I am enthusiastic, flexible, and positive in my teaching. I like it when learning is fun: it is OK to enjoy learning the subject matter ( I love coming up with games!).
I am a 4th-year graduate student at the University of Notre Dame, living near McLean, VA. I'm finishing up my dissertation for a Ph.D. in Biology. I intend to teach at the college level after grad school. At Notre Dame I did a lot of teaching and mentoring of undergraduates in general biology and ecology. I also tutored a variety of students and subjects when I was an undergraduate: middle school pre-algebra; high school algebra, geometry, science, and AP Biology; college calculus (1 and 2), differential equations, and of course a lot of biology. CURRENTLY TUTORING MULTIPLE STUDENTS IN SAT PREP!
