I have worked 20 years as a Foreign Service Officer assigned mostly to countries in Latin America and Europe. Prior to my career as a diplomat, I taught high school English, Math and Social Studies. I also taught ESL for two years at both a class and individual level. I enjoy teaching and believe I have a talent for assessing the specific needs of my students and targeting my instruction methods to maximize their learning potential. I am married with three children. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, and playing tennis and golf.

Public Speaking

I have worked as a Foreign Service Officer for 20 years with the State Department during which time I have worked overseas with the U.S. Embassies in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Austria, Paraguay, and Mexico. On frequent occasion I have spoken to U.S. and foreign audiences.

Social Studies

I have a BA in International Relations, an MA in Interamerican Studies and an MS in National Security Studies. In addition, I have worked as a Foreign Service Officer for 20 years with the State Department during which time I have lived overseas for 14 years. As a diplomat, I have often needed to explain U.S. history and policy to foreign audiences and, in turn, understand the culture, history, and politics of the countries in which I have served.

Knowledgeable and well prepared — We asked James to help both of our teens with history and government. He is very knowledgeable in this area and explains the concepts well.
