I am certified with a current license to teach History and Social Science as well as English in Virginia. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have taught Reading, Language Arts, Composition and Literature, as well as History at the middle and high school levels in various states within public and private schools. Internationally, I have taught the English language to children and adults. I teach for understanding which sometimes is lost in large classes and fast-paced, multi-ability environments. As an educator and more importantly, as a parent, I know that all students can achieve academic success with a caring tutor working with the student.

At the beginning of each class period I assigned textbook sentences and handouts so that they would put into practice grammar rules. Additionally, I gave my students rubrics with their writing assignments so they knew in advance how they were to be graded. Once an essay or research paper had been initially drafted, I paired students with classmates to exchange their papers, and then they proofread each others papers. After they finished students were to submit their work to me.
