Hello, everyone!

My name is Shane K., and I am currently a student, soccer coach, and a Public Health Training Assistant for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). I work at the John S. Davis Center which is an FCPS center for job skills and independent living skills for special needs students.

I am also a travel soccer coach for Vienna Youth Soccer. I attended George Mason University and was part of the University Scholars Program (25 students each year are admitted for a full academic scholarship). I recently graduated from GMU with a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and am now pursuing my Master's in Education from the Curry School of Education at University of Virginia (NOVA Campus).

I have in-depth experience in various subjects. Math and sciences are my two strongest points. (I have scored above the 80th percentile on all standardized tests scores including SAT, ACT, Regents [New York standardized tests] and GRE.)

Also, I have thorough knowledge of architecture and construction. I worked in contracting and roofing for over six years and was also a dedicated architecture student. I am experienced in CAD (Computer Aided Software) as well as ADOBE suites and Microsoft office packages.

I was a member of the Big Buddy program throughout high school (Big brother/little brother program) and also headed the annual Special Olympics event at my high school.

I strive for perfection but also have a love and passion for teaching and development of students.

I have volunteered and led Special Olympics event for several years. I have also mentored and tutored, as well as coached, athletes with ADD and ADHD.

Baseball

I played baseball for over 14 years in Upstate New York. I played PONY (U16) league travel baseball as a 14 and 15 year old. I played 3 years of varsity baseball at York Central School (Retsof, NY). I placed top 5 in triples county-wide Junior and Senior year. I was named all Section honorable mention and Livingston County Exceptional Senior in 2009. My career batting average was over .350 throughout high school varsity. I am also experienced in pitching, infield and outfield.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a tutor and mentor in elementary classes since I was in middle school. I also was a summer school teacher for grades 6-8 in English and math. I am also pursuing my graduate degree (Masters in Education) from the University of Virginia. My coursework and previous experience suit me for working with kids of all ages, and my coaching experience (U3-U19) has allowed me to understand and see best practices of teaching and coaching of all ages.

Elementary Math

I excelled through all math categories through Calculus BC by my junior year of high school. I also scored very well on SAT Math (750/800) and ACT Math (35/36).

I previously was a part of the big buddy/little buddy program throughout all four years of high school in which I focused on helping elementary students in all subjects.

Geometry

I excelled through high school in many subject areas. Math was one of my strongest subjects (750/800 on SAT Math and 35/36 on ACT Math) and I currently tutor a Freshman within FCPS for geometry.

Soccer

I am an experienced soccer player. I played 4 years of varsity soccer. I was an all star honorable mention Junior and Senior year, County Exceptional Senior in 2008. Currently I am a travel soccer coach for U9/U10 academies, U15 boys travel, U16 boys travel, and U19 house programs for Vienna Youth Soccer. I also coach Varsity Soccer at George C. Marshall High School, where I coached JV for 2 years.

Special Needs

I am currently teaching Special Education job skills and independent living skills. I have volunteered and mentored several students with special needs or accommodations since middle and high school. I have led efforts in Special Olympics and helped guide athletes and students through events. I am working on my Masters in Education Psychology through The University of Virginia which focuses on student thought processes and ways to differentiate education for various mental capacities.

Swimming

I was a varsity swimmer and County All Star Senior year. I placed top 8 in county division in every individual event Junior and Senior year. My times were as follows: 50 free: 23.82, 100 free: 52.71, 100 breast: 1:09.36, 100 Back: 1:03.32, 100 fly: 1:00.71, 200 I.M.: 2:13.71, and 200 free: 2:00.21

Trigonometry

I scored very high on my math portions of the SAT and ACT (750 out of 800 SAT, 35 out of 36 ACT). I have helped several other students with study tips and practice problems for these exams as well.
