My approach is to be quick to encourage and faithful to provide explanations, practice, support, and appropriate challenges for your student. I have over 8 years of tutoring experience, but I'm young enough for your child not to tune out my advice. I have taught approximately 100 students and have tutored over 70 students one-on-one.
I have dealt with many students who have felt that their teachers did not care about their progress, but I have always had a personal approach. That care, along with dozens of practice problems without pressure, have allowed me to see steady growth and in the grades and even in the dispositions of my students. Confidence is a major factor in tackling math problems, so I always work on that in conjunction with the material. I'm funny and encouraging and will not make your student feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, confused, or disliked at any moment.
I helped a sweet teenage girl with low processing skills go from an F to a B in geometry within four months. I also taught an anxious senior how to tackle the ACT that he recently had done poorly on two times in a row; he got into the state university of his choice after eight sessions with me. I taught in the classroom for two years at a private school, I majored in math, and I have worked for locally and nationally known tutoring companies with children in third grade up to adults going back to college. I have experience with ADHD, autism, low processing skills, and dyslexia. I am very comfortable with each individual student.
Please do not settle for a teacher with a rigid nature. Enthusiasm is contagious! I would be honored to share mine with your student.
