Hello. I am a native Japanese speaker who has lived in the US for almost 10 years. In my professional life, I assisted English speaking bank patrons in the foreign exchange department of a Japanese bank. Through school and personal experiences such as volunteering, I helped bring Japanese speaking and English speaking people together for years.
My knowledge of English goes back to age 10 when my mother taught Kumon in Japan. I graded student worksheets, helped set up, and studied and then excelled at English.
In Japan, I taught English to Japanese speakers from elementary students to adults. I participated in city government-organized social events that brought visiting students, business people, and other travelers together. I acted as interpreter and welcomed people to my city of Nagoya. At home, our family hosted several English speaking visitors over a 6 year period. I look back on those memories fondly and still stay in touch with some of the friends I made.
In the US, I was granted the opportunity to share the Japanese language and culture to English speakers through university-organized programs such as the Feast of Nations annual event and the Friendship Program, which introduced other cultures to 1st graders.
Since moving to the US permanently my family has settled in the Chantilly, Virginia area where I now teach my own children English and Japanese.
I am available for tutoring on the weekends for the most part. However, I can make some exceptions. Besides Chantilly, the best areas for me are Herndon/Reston, Ashburn, and Manassas.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your journey learning Japanese.
