I've taken school seriously all my life, from elementary school all the way through college, and understand well both the joys, and the frustrations, of learning. I also enjoy being able help facilitate the learning process for others through teaching and tutoring. Rather than spoonfeeding information and answers, I prefer to act more as a facilitator, guiding the student to discover and learn for themselves, as well as make connections between the things they learn. I value my students and see each of them as gifted in their own way, as I recognize the importance of a tutor also being an encourager.
Regarding my Japanese experience, I've been studying Japanese myself for nearly six years, having studied abroad in Japan for one of those years, and am continuing to study myself. Understanding the Japanese language, people, and culture is my passion.
Regarding my English experience, I majored in English in college, and minored in TESL. I've helped friends on numerous occasions with proofreading, critiquing papers, and in non-native speakers' cases, with their English. I blog and am also currently writing a book.
