My name is Shamila M. I am Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Artist/Painter as my professional. I am now taking my 3rd Masters in Sign Language Teaching at Gallaudet University in Washington DC. I am hoping to become Sign Language Teacher and teach the hearing people to learn American Sign Language (ASL) in any institute.
I have MFA in Illustrator and MA in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Arts and Design. I have worked as Graphic Designer for the past 16 years as freelance designer. During my spare time I do my paintings and design and develop Sri Lankan Sign Language (SLSL) Workbooks for Deaf preschool children. 5 of my books have been published and 7500 have been donated to all the deaf schools, library around Sri Lanka. I have got another 7 more SLSL workbooks and 4 American Sign Language Workbook that needs to be complete by next year.
I have experiences teaching the teachers, students and parents of deaf children both in Sri Lanka and in United States.
Learning American Sign Language is fun and challenge and also it opens the bridge between the hearing and deaf people to be able to communicate with each other. Now ASL is becoming more recognized and widely accepted and also most popular language in American schools and even in the universities!
I would love to help and improve the ASL and be more fluent to interact with the other Deaf people. Also I would love to help the students to improve the Photoshop skills or any other software programs.
Thank you!
