David’s qualifications in specific subjects below.
Algebra 1
I have tutored Algebra I with six different students over the past three years and my students improved their grades and performance in the subject significantly. I have taken Calculus I and Calculus II at William & Mary and did well in both classes. I consistently score an 800 on the SAT Math and scored a 178/180 (96 percentile) on the GRE Quantitative section. I love Algebra I and know the subject in and out. Whether you have difficulty with math, or are very skilled but just need a little help, I will be a patient, helpful tutor. I do not mind if a tutoring session goes 5-15 minutes past time (and I will not charge extra for that). Choose me and increase your Algebra I understand (and grades too)!
Algebra 2
I have tutored my younger sister in Algebra II and improved her grades and performance in the subject significantly. I have taken Calculus I and Calculus II at William & Mary and did well in both classes. I consistently score an 800 on the SAT Math and scored a 178/180 (96 percentile) on the GRE Quantitative section. I love Algebra II and know the subject in and out. Whether you have difficulty with math, or are very skilled but just need a little help, I will be a patient, helpful tutor. I do not mind if a tutoring session goes 5-15 minutes past time (and I will not charge extra for that). Choose me and increase your Algebra II understanding (and grades too)!
Elementary (K-6th)
I assisted the teacher during class and tutored 3rd-5th grade students for a total of 50+ hours at DJ Montague Elementary School in Williamsburg, Virginia. I also tutored 6th graders after school for at least 20 hours through a tutoring program my friend ran in 2009 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Patience is the key to elementary school students and I saw solid improvements (especially in math) with those I tutored.
Geometry
I have tutored Geometry with three different students over the past three years and my students improved their grades and performance in the subject significantly. I have taken Calculus I and Calculus II at William & Mary and did well in both classes. I consistently score an 800 on the SAT Math and scored a 178/180 (96 percentile) on the GRE Quantitative section. I love Geometry and know the subject in and out. Whether you have difficulty with math, or are very skilled but just need a little help, I will be a patient, helpful tutor. I do not mind if a tutoring session goes 5-15 minutes past time (and I will not charge extra for that). Choose me and increase your Geometry understanding (and grades too)!
GMAT
I have tutored three students in the GMAT. I taught the SAT and GRE tests for Kaplan Test Prep but realized I could make more money teaching graduate school test prep, such as the GMAT, GRE, and LSAT to students in a one-on-one setting. I know the very best GMAT prep books, which surprisingly are not the Kaplan or Princeton Review books commonly advertised for GMAT prep. The GMAT is my best test. I will show you how to solve the difficult problems so you can increase your score from good to great. I tailor my assignments to you, the student, so you can improve your score the most. So prepare to receive the best Quantitative, Verbal, Analytical Writing, and Integrated Reasoning preparation available.
GRE
I took the GRE in January, 2013 and scored a 168/170 (96 percentile) on the Quantitative section, a 164/170 (94 percentile) on the Verbal section, and a 5.5 (96 percentile) on the Analytical Writing section. I know the best GRE prep books, which are not the Kaplan or Princeton Review books that so many students use. Manhattan Prep has superior GRE prep guides. I am especially skilled at teaching the difficult GRE problems that so many prep books fail to address. I also teach SAT prep for Kaplan and am well acquainted with standardized testing procedures.
Philosophy
Hi, my name is David and I double majored in philosophy and psychology at William & Mary. I took more than a dozen philosophy classes, including seminars with 20-page philosophy final papers. In my spare time I study various philosophers and their respective theories because I enjoy philosophy so much. It would be my pleasure to help a student better understand philosophical concepts and assist with his or her papers.
Precalculus
I have tutored my younger sister in Precalulus and she significantly improved her grades and performance in the subject. I have taken Calculus I and Calculus II at William & Mary and did well in both classes. I consistently score an 800 on the SAT Math and scored a 178/180 (96 percentile) on the GRE Quantitative section. I love Precalculus and know the subject in and out. I remember having the third highest grade out of 30 students in my Honors Precalculus class at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax. Whether you have difficulty with math, or are very skilled but just need a little help, I will be a patient, helpful tutor. I do not mind if a tutoring session goes 5-15 minutes past time (and I will not charge extra for that). Choose me and increase your Precalculus understanding (and grades too)!
SAT Math
When I took the SAT in high school as a 16 year old junior, I scored a 760 on the SAT Math, getting 50 out of 52 problems correct. Now I consistently score an 800 on the math section. I scored a 178 out of 180 (96 percentile) on the GRE Quantitative section, which is significantly harder than the SAT Math section. I currently attend William & Mary but am saving money by taking courses at community college in the Northern Virginia area, where I will be until September, 2013. During my freshman year at William & Mary, I took Calculus I and Calculus II and did well in both of the courses. I have tutored four students in SAT Math before and each student significantly increased his or her score. Through trial and error, I have found the best SAT math test prep books on the market, which, surprisingly, are often not the Kaplan or Princeton Review books. Teaching difficult SAT Math problems, such as ones involving probability, combinatorics, or permutations, is my specialty. Knowing how to solve such problems separates the high scores from the near perfect scores.
SAT Reading
I teach the SAT for Kaplan Test Prep and I have tutored several students in the SAT over the past three years. I consistently score an 800 on both the Math and Critical Reading sections. I know the best SAT prep books, which surprisingly are not the Kaplan or Princeton Review books commonly advertised (e.g., Acing the SAT I Math, 2nd Edition by Greenhall Publishing is probably the best SAT Math prep book on the market). I also tutor the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), which are significantly harder standardized tests for graduate school. I tutor the GRE and GMAT at a much higher rate than I charge for SAT prep. SAT students are my bread and butter so I have that test down perfectly.
SAT Writing
As a junior in high school (when I was 16), I received a 2240 on the SAT (760 Math, 690 Critical Reasoning, and 790 Writing). I got a 6 on both sections of the SAT Writing section and only missed one of the 35 writing multiple choice questions. Now, at age 22, I know how to teach the SAT to help students receive similar scores or better. I have surveyed the various SAT prep books and found the best ones on the market. These are not ones published by Kaplan or Princeton Review, which are the two most prevalent books. I prepare my students with the most difficult SAT problems (such as ones from Barron's SAT 2400, 4th Edition) so they can score extra high. I am best at turning good scores into great scores. If your score is very low, I am not the best tutor for you.
Social Studies
In high school I took European History, AP American History, AP European History, and AP Government. I took a few religious studies classes at college at the College of William & Mary. My younger sister had a Civics class last year in high school and I helped her with her homework when needed. I have also volunteered by assisting different elementary school teachers at DJ Montague Elementary in Williamsburg, VA, with American History/Civics-type classes. I would feel comfortable tutoring an elementary, middle school, or high school studies in social studies.
