My teaching style is cooperative and participatory whether they are adults, teenagers or younger children. I assume my students are self-motivated to learn, improve and have fun! I use traditional classroom methods as well as visual and auditory re-enforcement, real life examples and the occasional field trip. I teach all levels of students and specifically instruct Geometry, Writing, and Science - Physical, Life, Earth Sciences. Most of my students are ESOL as well so we incorporate learning English as part of the main subject.
I am a U.S. Citizen born in State of Virginia, but have lived all over the country and traveled worldwide. I am a mother of two daughters that have been educated in the PWC school district. In addition, I have a child on an IEP for a learning disability. I have been a Girl Scout Leader and volunteer for over 5 years. Also, I volunteer as a CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocate for Abused and Neglected Children (thus I have been background checked by court system).

My undergraduate degree is from Penn State. My first Master's Degree is from Hawaii Pacific University. I am working on a 2nd master's degree/PhD at Regent University in Special Education (Learning Disabilities, Autism, Emotional Disabilities). I am also certified to teach ESOL students.

My classes include all types of Learning Disabled students (ADHD, ADD, Vision Processing, Cognative Processing) as well as Emotionally Disturbed students. I hold a Provisional Special Education License from Commonwealth of Virginia as well as Master's Degree work in Special Education.
I currently co-teach American History. My original degree is Political Science. Basically...I LOVE this stuff! The Virgina SOL standard questions require students to extrapolate information before being able to answer the question in front of them. Hence some students need help with re-enforcement of information from class as well as test taking hints to do well on class assessments AND the SOL. And it is my job to fill in those blanks!

I have been teaching Geometry with in a self contained classroom for students 9 to 12 grade. Specifically teaching to the Virginia curriculum with objective of passing the VA SOL. The key to geometry is reading comprehension, vocabulary and APPLYING that vocabulary to the problems presented. The applied knowledge is usually the hardest for most young students grasp.
As a Political Science major I studied all ares of the social sciences. Government, politics and civics studies make up some of the areas of the political science. If you are a middle school or high school student in Virgina then you are required to pass classroom assessments and the SOL. Those tests need you to extrapolate information prior to choosing a final answer. I can help ensure you know the background information as well as the question information. If you are a college student I can help you fill in the blanks where the professor might not have been absolutely clear. Plus assist with correctly writing answers how college professors want to see them in those little blue books.
I am Special Education teacher in Northern Virginia. I have taught high school and am set to teach middle school (8th grade) this fall. I specifically deal with learning disabled students. To help them discover how they learn and to teach them HOW to learn for themselves. I understand accommodation however not exception. LD students need to know "normal" and not have everything excused for them. I am able to give special attention to those with vision processing issues such as my daughter.
