Hello, my name is Peg.
I have a lifelong love of words and language, and a BA degree from Towson State University. I studied Spanish for seven years and have helped Spanish speakers learn practical English, from translating a bus schedule to shopping for groceries. I have tutored a young Bengali man online to help him increase his English vocabulary. I have helped a friend from France translate both prose and poetry into English. I will customize your tutoring sessions to emphasize vocabulary that will help you gain English fluency for work or educational use.
I proofread both nonfiction and fiction. My most recent fiction proofreading credit is for a science fiction novel released December 2012. My name is listed in the acknowledgements as part of the proofreading team.
I am ADD myself, and have experience with developing techniques to help restore study focus. People with ADD tend to be bright, creative, and generous, so there are many positive aspects of ADD. My emphasis is on accentuating the positive, and also on developing skills to manage challenges, like restlessness and impulsive actions.
I have Skype access and can tutor online as well as in person in the Blacksburg, VA, area.
I look forward to hearing from you!
WyzAnt requires all its tutors to pass a qualifying examination in each subject before we begin teaching it, and my fluency in English allowed me to pass ACT English creditably.
We will begin sessions with sample ACT questions, to determine what level of skill the student is presently working from, and then increase vocabulary and composition skills from there.
I find that one of the best ways to improve writing skills is to practice regularly, and I am glad to help all my students with that.
I obtained my B.A, from Towson State in 1975, have been writing personally for decades, as well as proofreading, and tutoring English.
At the beginner level, I will work with you to help you become fluent in English. Together, we will develop a list of daily phrases and sentences that you need, for work or school. I will help you practice these phrases and sentences, and become familiar with thinking and speaking them.
If you have already begun learning English, I can also help you expand your vocabulary. We will discuss exceptions to gramatical rules in English, and learn about word contractions like they've and we'll.
I can also tutor you in reading English.
I have Skype, and can tutor online, as well as in person.
I proofread both nonfiction and fiction. My most recent fiction proofreading credit is for science fiction novel Warpaint by Holly Lisle, released December 2012. My name is listed in the acknowledgements as part of the proofreading team.
I studied Spanish for 7 years, and have used it in practical context, from communicating with Spanish speaking neighbors from Mexico, to giving directions at the bus stop to passengers who did not yet speak English.
From a tutoring standpoint, I like to give my students weekly links that combine Spanish vocabulary with a cartoon, or story. By keeping practice interesting, people are likely to continue doing it longer. If the student is comfortable with singing, I will teach songs in Spanish, as well. We will also include word games, like Scrabble, In Spanish, that incorporate the week's vocabulary words.
