Ever since I was a child, I have loved two things - science and teaching. Tutoring gives me the perfect opportunity to use both my strengths to help others. During high school, I participated in the International Baccalaureate Program (which is similar to AP but also stresses the importance of volunteering and extracurricular activities and is recognized worldwide) and took a myriad of chemistry, biology and math classes. In college, while majoring in biology, I also tutored math at a local high school and peer-taught introductory biology lab courses.
My methods for tutoring are simple and successful; I evaluate what the students’ strengths and weaknesses are in a given topic, and then take a different approach to the concept that helps the students better grasp it. Often in schools, teachers don’t focus on the basics, provide too much information in a short amount of time, or provide it using language that is, while technically correct, difficult to understand. I will work patiently with the student to reach his/her full potential.
