Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been a Christian for over 40 years and I enjoy studying the Bible. I love to tell the stories and make them come alive for students. I teach Sunday School and a small group of middle school girls regularly.

Discrete Math

I have a BA in Math and am capable in all different types of math and how to apply them in practical problems. I am comfortable with students of all ages and am able to explain concepts multiple ways to help a student grasp them easily.

Elementary (K-6th)

I love working with children! Elementary and early middle school kids are diverse and that makes it challenging and interesting to work with them. It requires creativity and I love having to be bit "dramatic" sometimes to make a point. I regularly teach a group of 6th grade girls and we all enjoy it. I also teach Sunday School to elementary age kids so I have experience keeping 3rd through 6th graders engaged and learning.

English

I have over 10 years of experience as a professional technical writer and editor. In this role, I have learned how to write using standard style and format, how to use proper grammar and how to make the information interesting and easy for others to understand. I have edited the work of others and helped them to improve their writing.
English has many funny rules about grammar and word usage. If this is something that is difficult for you, I would love to help you to improve.

Physics

I have a double major BA in Math and Physics. My professors believed that Physics Is Fun and passed that feeling on to me. I love to help students understand the basics of physics and that it is all around them and that it can indeed be FUN!

Extremely helpful and kind — Karen is fantastic!! My daughter is taking Algebra 1 and Karen has been a blessing to find. We are extremely lucky to have found her. Karen is really good at explaining problems and takes the time to make sure my daughter fully understands the lesson before she leaves. She is exceptionally patient, and has a wonderful, warm personality. She is a very happy person and always arrives with a big smil ...
