Mrs. B. is originally from Colombia, South America, so she is a native Spanish speaker. Besides English she also speaks Portuguese fluently because she lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for one year before coming to the United States in February of 2001. In her country Mrs. B. earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from National University of Colombia’s Bogotá Campus in 1999.
In Colombia she acquired experience in rehabilitating adults and children with communication disorders. She also has six years of experience teaching Spanish for adults and children in Brazil and in the United States in private tutoring and with WyzAnt tutoring for the past two years. In February 2013 Mrs. B. will complete five years working in the FLEX (Foreign Language Experience) program in Fairfax County Public Schools teaching Spanish language and culture to children in elementary school.
Mrs. B. is currently attending George Mason University pursuing a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Foreign Language-Spanish. She plans to continue her education in order to improve her teaching methods because she is passionate about teaching and sharing her language and culture with her students. Mrs. B. is convinced that a foreign language can open a door to new ideas, knowledge, and people around the world.
