Bachelor of arts in communications (Graduate Coursework)
For the past years, I have taught foreign students the proper pronunciation of English words as I also implemented pre-made lesson plans to help students understand the concepts using a wide variety of activities. My tutorial approach is by using drills to warm up the mind of the student, discuss the lesson fully, let the student be involved with the lesson as I require him/her to answer exams prepared for the topic and give the final assessment for the day. The student is also given the opportunity to give his/her insights about the topic, may it be a comment or a perception through writing or verbal communication to help in achieving a well-taught subject. I create lesson plans for classes taught such as English, Vocabulary, Grammar, TOEFL, Psychology and Writing. I have also handled students who are mentally challenged such as those who have autism and ADHD. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked as a teacher in a private pre-school for one school year. I have experienced handling children with special needs included in the regular classroom for socialization and academic purposes. Among the cases of students with special needs in my previous job are students with Attention Deficit Disorder/ Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD). These conditions are neuro-biological disorders that affect the ability to concentrate and remain focused on a task. As I have learned through our various learning sessions, there are three subtypes of ADHD. These are: ADHD manifesting mainly inattentive behaviour, ADHD manifesting mainly hyperactive-impulsive and ADHD combined type. In my previous job, there were at least one or two kids with ADHD in a class, (2 out of 10). Through trainings, I was able to help manage the kids’ behaviors to help them benefit more in the regular classroom. I have also learned some strategies to help children with ADHD manage their behaviour like proximity control, interest boosting, planned ignoring, breaking down tasks and antiseptic bouncing. I believe that with my previous experiences with students with ADHD, I can help not only to look after your child but also helping him manage his behaviour little by little. I will be very happy to work with a kid and I hope that you find my experiences related in this job.
