Hello!
First, here is a little bit about my background and qualifications. I was an elementary school teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools for the past six years, and have recently decided to stay home with my first child. I taught third grade for five years, and spent the last year teaching fifth grade. The students I served came from diverse backgrounds in terms of ethnicity, English-proficiency, and academic ability. I have taught students with IEPs, as well as highly gifted students. (Some have even been in both categories.) I have a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Elementary Education. My undergraduate degree has two areas of emphasis, mathematics and social studies, and my master's degree has a focus in gifted and talented education. Overall, I have spent the past decade educating myself and attending professional development opportunities to become a better teacher for the students I am privileged to instruct.
I believe in teaching the whole child by using their strengths and interests to improve areas of need. Motivation and engagement are important elements in effective instruction. Therefore, getting to know a child is the first step in being able to teach them. I enjoy constructing and creating lessons with the child in mind.
I take pleasure in all subject matters, but have always considered math to be one of my favorites ever since I was in grade school myself. I hope you find all this information useful, and am looking forward to hearing from you!
