After graduating with my master's degree in Childhood Education k-6, I became a teacher. So, during the school year I am an elementary school teacher and have been teaching in a lot of different capacities for 3 years. But, over the summer I like to continue my work with children because I realize from my experience in the classroom that students can tend to slip back in skills before school starts again in September. Also, the summer is a great time to brush up on things not understood in the classroom as well as a great time to push ahead in one's learning. So I try to help my students do their best to meet these goals all while having fun. I am very flexible and can work with my client's needs. Please contact me if you're interested in a passionate and devoted teaching professional.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a certified and licensed professional in teaching elementary school, "elementary k-6" is my passion and where a lot of my experience lies. The curriculum that I'm comfortable teaching ranges all the way from the basics for kindergarteners to state test preparation for older grades and everything in between. I believe that school especially at an elementary school level that what you learn then sets the foundation skills for everything else one learns in life. If literacy or math skills are shaky in the elementary grades then moving on to higher order thinking in those areas will suffer.

I love to inspire a passion of lifelong learning in all of my students. In reading you can get in the head of the character and be anyone or travel anywhere all from the comfort of your reading spot. It's also a skill that gets developed like a muscle. The more you practice the better you get and the easier it becomes. And this skill can not only be used for fun but in life and career as well. Writing goes hand in hand with reading. The more you read and see how other writer's express a thought the better writer you become because you have so many exemplary models from which to learn. Writing clearly and dynamically is a skill some people underestimate, but when seen done right, you know it's invaluable.

Math is also an area of great importance as not only is it used in most careers but everyday in life too. A lot of times math is taught without understanding and just memorization. But I think a big key for math is to really know what is happening in the operations so that you don't have to always be memorizing; that instead you can figure it out so you know the answer not just when it's straight forward but when the question is asked and it's on it's head. This is when math becomes like a fun puzzle to figure out instead of a challenging obstacle in your way of completing an assignment.

No matter the subject a curious mind is something to be treasured. Why not spark that curiosity as soon as possible?

Elementary Math

As a certified and licensed professional in teaching elementary school, I am an expert at elementary math. I have taught using a few different set programs but am all the time supplementing with my own materials and ideas.

Hebrew

I am Jewish and know how to read and write Hebrew. I went to both after-school Hebrew school and Jewish Day school where I learned Hebrew. I've been to Israel twice and was able to use my Hebrew to get around. Also, being Jewish and having attended Solomon Schechter Day School, I am also able to teach/tutor my students on all the Hebrew for the prayers for weekday and Shabbat services.

Phonics

I am a certified elementary school teacher with experience and success in the phonics subject.

SAT Math

The SATs are an important test and a requirement to apply to college. I remember preparing as much as possible to do well on my exam, and I still have techniques in my back pocket to share with my students. When I took the SATs, I recieved at 670 out of 800 in the math section. I've gone on to take other tests like the MCAT, PRAXIS, and others that all have a math component, and I've done well. In addition, as an elementary teacher, I prepared my students for their state exams that also included a math section. Due to my extensive experience, I'm very comfortable tutoring in this subject.

Spanish

I was born in Puerto Rico and lived there for a year an a half afterward. Subsequently, my family moved to New Jersey but my parents always continued to speak to me in Spanish. I then proceeded to take Spanish in school and got a 5 (highest) on the AP Native Spanish speakers exam which rewarded me with college credit for the subject. So, in addition to being a fluent native Spanish speaker I also have formal education in the subject. In my opinion, its a great dual perspective to have which sets me apart from other tutors.

Study Skills

Study skills are something that students can use for the years kids spend in schools. As a teacher, I know that once you form good habits in studying and being organized it makes learning so much easier. Perfect practice makes perfect and that applies to life in general, not just studying. I know the tips and tricks to make studying fun and easy.
