I currently teach 8th grade English in Alexandria, VA. I am currently in my 5th year of teaching, with 2 years of high school (grades 9-12) and 3 years of middle school (grades 6-8) experience. I hold my Pennsylvania and Virginia licenses in Secondary Education- English and Communications. I have my Bachelor's degree in Education from Penn State University, and my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Scranton.
During my undergraduate experience, I worked as a writing tutor at the University Writing Center for three years. I helped both undergraduate and graduate students complete writing assignments for various courses, as well as applications for graduate, business, and law school. I also taught writing workshops for various courses on campus. With this position, I gained valuable experience working with students of all different learning styles, experience, and languages.
In my free time, I coach Track and Field in Alexandria, co-advise a National Junior Honors Society Chapter for my district, and train for my own races. I also serve as English Department chair in my school.
I would love to help you improve your vocabulary, reading, writing, critical thinking, and overall communication. I can help you do better in school (I have a pretty good idea of what your teachers want and expect from you), on those fun standardized texts (PSSA, SAT, AP, etc.), or to help you write and proofread college applications and personal statements/essays. As a member of the Penn State Student Alumni Corps and Admissions representative, I know what competitive schools are looking for in an application.
I live in Arlington, VA, and I am willing to meet you in the convenience of your home, or, we can meet at a local library or other quiet environment.
I look forward to hearing from you!
