I graduated from Connecticut College with a BA in Government, spent 6 years on Capitol Hill as a senior professional committee staffer and for the last 20 years, I have been in private practice as a government relations advocate. I have taught many young lawyers and policy professionals the legislative process, how the U.S. government functions (both in theory and in practice), the interaction between the different branches of government and American political history.
I enjoy teaching by example using case studies, having been described by one of my students this way: "Bob's knowledge of legislative issues and procedures is remarkable. He has a tremendous ability to dissect complex congressional puzzles, devise strategies, and create and implement sound government relations plans. Much of what I know about that aspect of government, I attribute to Bob and what he taught me while we worked together. He always took the time to teach me process, not simply direct me on tasks. It was a true pleasure working with Bob as he has an amiable demeanor and a great sense of humor."
