Hello parents and students! I work closely with parents and students to understand each child's individual needs, and then create an individualized plan to support parents in ensuring their child's academic success.

I have been working with children for 15 years in a number of different capacities. I am a certified elementary teacher, and I have a Masters in Elementary Education from Brown University. I taught first grade for three years and have taught fifth and sixth graders. I have worked in public, private and charter schools. Recently I have been creating individualized curriculum for children who are home schooled. I have experience working with children with special needs and I have extensive experience with children on the Autism Spectrum using an ABA-based approach.

I enjoy helping children realize their strengths and learn how to improve their skills in areas in which they struggle. I love helping children learn to read and write and have experience using multiple curricula and strategies to teach literacy.

If you are interested in supplementing your child's current education or helping support them in areas they are struggling in, I can help.

ADD/ADHD

I am a certified elementary teacher, and I have a Master's in Elementary Education from Brown University. I have worked with students, one-on-one and in classroom settings who have ADD. I have attended workshops on the best ways to meet the needs of students with ADD. I also have family members with ADD and have seen its effects first hand.

Aspergers

I have worked with students with Aspergers one-on-one and in classroom settings. Many of the students in the gifted classes I have taught were diagnosed with Aspergers. I received additional experience working with Aspergers students when I created curriculum for a family that home schools their Aspergers son. I am a certified elementary teacher, and I have a Master's in Elementary Education from Brown University.

Autism

I was trained in the Applied Behavior Analysis approach when I worked as a special education teacher for the New England Center for Children and School for Autism. I taught and managed the IEPs for the students under my care in NECC's transition program located in the Worcester Public School system in MA.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my Masters in Elementary Education from Brown University in 2006. I have taught first, fifth, and sixth grades. I am currently certified in grades 1-6 through the state of NY which has reciprocity with VA.

Phonics

I have been trained in multiple phonics based reading curriculum while working as a first grade teacher. I have experience identifying phonological weaknesses and working with students to strengthen any weakness and correct it through focused phonics work.

Social Studies

I have a BA in history from American University and am passionate about history. My background is in world history as it pertains to American history. I also have a minor in international development, with a focus on the history of development of societies.

Special Needs

I worked at the New England Center for Children, a school for children with severe autism. I have worked one-on-one with special needs students in classroom settings, and small groups. One of my teaching jobs involved working with students in an inclusive behavioral program, and most recently, I have gained experience working with children with different language based disabilities. I have a Master's in Elementary Education.

Study Skills

Part of my job as a classroom teacher was to help my students learn how to study. I have also completed a coaching program that has helped me gain the skills to create individualized study plans for students, based on what works best for them. As a tutor, I have helped numerous students design and implement plans to help them become better at studying.
