Michele W.

I recently completed my Master's degree from George Mason University in integrating technology in the schools. I wanted to continue my education while learning how to educate students to be good users of technology and information. I've also attended Florida A&M University where I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with an English Speakers of Other Languages endorsement.

I started teaching in Virginia as a fourth grade and have taught English language learners as well as special education students. I've taught third grade for the last three years and have loved every minute doing so. I currently teach ESOL and it's very rewarding to watch children blossom and be confident as they learn to speak English.

For the last several years I have also worked to help students in after school programs in reading, math and science. I believe in helping children by linking their living to their learning and vise versa. I also think that by "playing" games my students get the ability to take on the role and learn the rules for many concepts that I teach in class.

My students need structure and responsibilities and I feel that I help to fill that need for them in their lives. I like to help students feel like they are needed and special to the class family. Every year when I promote my kids to the next grade level I feel as if they are well prepared mentally and academically.

If you want to have fun while learning then I'm the tutor for you!!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I believe that I am qualified to tutor in the elementary k-6th level because I am an elementary teacher with a valid Virginia teaching certificate. I've also taught third and fourth grade students for several years now. Another reason I feel as though I'm qualified is because I've worked in after school programs at my school in reading, math and science.
