I am endorsed to teach English and Social Studies in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have served as a long-term substitute teacher in Virginia -- teaching both middle school ESL and Math. I have been a volunteer teacher of religious education. My tutoring is defined by developing a plan of action that is organized and then providing patience and support during sessions.

I have 20 years of experience in public policy and government affairs. This included work assisting with media activities and writing articles for in-house publications.

I am endorsed to teach English in Virginia. I have taught ESL in Fairfax County Public Schools. I can assist with word usage, grammar, pronunciation, writing organization, and writing fluency. I can find appropriate reading material that matches your interests and needs and set up a program to facilitate your advancement.

Government & Politics

I worked for almost 20 years doing political and policy work in Washington, D.C. on both the state and federal levels. This included work at political committees and for associations.

Public Speaking

I have taken two classes in public speaking (one each in high school and college). I have written remarks for public officials speaking at events. I have delivered speeches at government affairs conferences. I have also worked with students in Fairfax County in helping them improve their public speaking.

Social Studies

I have passed the Praxis II exam for middle school social studies. I also taught social studies as a long-term substitute for Fairfax County Public Schools. Prior to my teaching, I worked with national political committees which gave me a sound grounding in the history and process of our government at the local, state and national levels.

I have worked with students in Northern Virginia in middle school, high school and college to improve their writing. I can assist with grammar, spelling, word usage, organization and clarity. I think it is important to work hard to determine what a student wants to write. "Brainstorming" techniques may be helpful in unlocking the best ideas!
