Hi, my name is Manasi and I am a graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in Government focusing in on International Relations.

Throughout my life I have enjoyed working with young people and helping those in need. As one of the oldest in my family, I have always helped my younger sibling and cousins with their school work and with anything they may have had difficulty understanding. Outside my family, I have also tutored both as paid and volunteer work, mostly in the areas of math and Test Preparation for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. Wherever I have been, I have always sought out the opportunity to tutor.

It gives me great pleasure to help others perform to their potential and thus be given the opportunity to achieve all they may wish to. I find the work very rewarding when I am able to show young people that what they are having difficulty with is not as hard as they may think if they just look at it in a different way.

While my focus is on young people, I am open and happy to help anyone that needs it. I have done adult education and helped someone improve their reading comprehension. I am also always ready to help my family as well as my colleagues at work, and everyone knows that they can always come to me with any questions they may have and I will help them to the best of my ability.

Algebra 1

Math has always been my favorite and best subject and I have many years of experience in tutoring at various levels for family, friends, and other students.

I especially enjoy Algebra because to me it is a lot like solving a puzzle, which I also love doing.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 was one my favorite subjects when I was in school because I loved math and puzzles and I thought that this was the perfect combination of the two.

I am very good at recognizing the relationships present and the best way for approaching the problems and have helped friends, family and other students for many years in the subject.

American History

History was my strongest subject in High School and I graduated with well over the required number of credits in the subject.

In addition, I also received a 5 on the US History AP.

Vocabulary

I have a very strong vocabulary and have never stopped building it. In my spare time, I love to do crosswords and various other word puzzles that keep me sharp and help me to improve. I have also tested very well on vocabulary on standardized testing.

Another thing that helps my vocabulary is that I have studied both Latin and ancient Greek which form the roots for a significant amount of vocabulary.

Grammar

Due to having an excellent teacher for grammar early in my education, I have excellent skills in this subject and placed out of taking it in high school because of my advanced knowledge. I am also the go to person in the office and personally for proofreading others' writing to make sure it is grammatically correct.

Microsoft Excel

I have been tested on Excel and have a high proficiency on the application. I know how to do formulas, create databases of information, create charts and graphs, etc.

I have used the program extensively in various professional capacities and have helped colleagues as well when they have had trouble with it.

Geometry

Though Geometry was never my favorite part of math, I have really come to understand its importance over the years and how much it helps in everything that comes after. It is especially helpful when taking the SAT and also when you move into trigonometry and pre-calculus.

I have many years of experience in tutoring the subject and am very good at looking at problems and determining what is the best way to solve the problem, something I would love and be happy to share.

Microsoft Word

I have extensive experience in Word and have been tested as highly proficient in the program. In addition to the basic functions, I know how to create brochures, templates, mail merge to create standard letters and messages as well as labels, tables, flow charts, graphics, etc.

I have used it extensively in a professional capacity and have often helped colleagues and family with difficulties they have faces when using the program.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have extensive experience using PowerPoint both as part of my work experience in creating presentations as well as personally creating sideshows. I also know how to put in animations, sounds and use the various other extras available on PowerPoint.

Prealgebra

I have always loved math and prealgebra is when the subject starts to get more complicated and interesting. Until now, you mostly studied the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with various numbers of digits.

With prealgebra, though, you start learn more complex types of numbers like decimals, fractions and variables.

As a lover of puzzles, I like teaching this concept in that was as finding a missing piece in an equation.

Precalculus

Precalculus is perhaps the most important math subject that you can take as it combines all the concepts you have learned in previous levels of math and starts to apply them in new ways. It is also the foundation that you need before going to the much more complex calculus.

Given its importance, I believe very strongly in making sure students have a strong grasp of the subject and the various concepts and it exposes you to.

Reading

My reading comprehension skills are very strong and I have scored very well on standardized exams that test the subject. I also have several years of experience tutoring in the subject at various levels: from elementary school, to high school SAT and English, and even Adult education.

I am an avid reader of classic literature as well as popular fiction and can relate to my students based on whatever they enjoy reading.

Trigonometry

I loved learning math when I was in school and greatly enjoy passing on that love and knowledge now. I know many people have difficulties with it and so want to use my skills to make it as easy as possible for people to get.

Writing

I have extensive experience with several different types of writing activities both professionally and academically. I have written essays, research papers, journalistic articles, informative statements for web posting, analyses, etc.

I also have some years of experience editing the writing of others. I have edited articles for publication, proofread a variety of documents professionally as well as for family and friends.

Geography

As a lover of travel, I have always been fascinated with geography and knowing where places are located around the world.

I always enjoyed learning the countries, state and their capitals and remember them to this day.

Aacademically, I got a 4 in AP Human Geography and took several courses in college in Geography.

English

I have very strong English skills that come from being an avid reader and love of classic literature and the various courses I have taken throughout my academic career. I have tutored in English and helped students in analyzing themes and major ideas from the books they have had to read for school.

SAT Math

I scored an 800 on this section of the SAT when I took it. I also have almost a year of experience tutoring in the SAT with an organization called Ivy Insiders and on my own.

World History

History was my strongest subject in High School and I graduated with well over the required number of credits in the subject.

In addition, I also graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in International Relations so have college coursework in World History as well.

GRE

I took the GRE recently and received a 166 in the Verbal Section, a 163 on the Quantitative Section, and a 5.5 on the Analytical Writing Section.

I have several years of experience in teaching test preparation and teaching students with a variety of learning styles. I pride myself on adapting my approach to the needs as well as strengths/weaknesses of the students that I am teaching.

Proofreading

As I am very good at grammar, I am the go to person in my family to proofread their writing, be it essays or correspondence, before sending it out.

I also have experience in proofreading professionally. I have edited articles before they are submitted for publication, proofread official correspondence and presentations and edited various other types of writing.

SAT Reading

I scored a 770 on this section of the SAT when I took it. I also have almost a year of experience tutoring in the SAT with an organization called Ivy Insiders and on my own.

PSAT

I scored very well on the SAT and have almost a year of experience in helping students prepare for the PSAT and SAT tests.

ACT Reading

The ACT Reading section is mostly a race against time but is otherwise much like an open book test.

As someone with strong reading comprehension skills and with the other strategies that I have learned over the years, the people I have tutored in this have improved greatly and learned the best way to save time while still getting the right answers.

ACT English

Unlike the SAT, which has three different types of writing sections that test grammar slightly differently, the ACT tests all these concepts at once.

In addition to the basic grammatical concepts that both test require you to be aware of, the ACT also looks at such ideas as mood and tone in writing and what is most appropriate.

Given my strengths in grammar and reading, I have always done well in this and have successfully helped others improve their comprehension as well.

ACT Math

Through my experience with the ACT and tutoring in both it and the SAT, I have found that the biggest difference between them is that, while the SAT tests simpler concepts, it does so in trickier ways.

While the ACT tests more advanced math concepts such as logarithms and trigonomteric functions that the SAT doesn't, these don't make up many questions and the rest of the questions are more straightforward tests of math concepts than the SAT.

Many people are intimidated by this section of the ACT because they think they need to be good at science or have prior knowledge of it. As someone who wasn't the strongest in science myself, I was pleasantly surprised when I took this section and found that it was much simpler than that.
