Hi everyone! My name is Jen, and I am a former Peace Corps volunteer. I lived in Guatemala from August 2006 until December 2008. During my Peace Corps service, I had the opportunity to participate in many exciting and rewarding opportunities. For example, I founded and directed a women's radio program called Mujer Adelante. I also worked with community groups to teach them how to manage their projects, worked with women's groups to encourage their participation in politics, and taught English to adults and children. I'm looking forward to sharing my love of the Spanish language with anyone who is interested!
I think the best way to learn is by doing, so I encourage active learning activities such as role playing with relevant vocabulary. For instance, one student may play the role of a store clerk, and the other a customer who needs help.
I tutored Spanish at my university's Learning Resource Center for 2 years, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Spanish. I currently work for a government agency where I review Spanish language documents for accuracy, and also provide translation services.
I am also a member of the American Translators Association, and plan to take my certifying exams this year.
