I am a patient, effective, and friendly mathematics tutor. My schedule is flexible and I can meet at a location that is safe and convenient. I can help just about anyone with basic math, geometry, algebra and pre-calculus (including trig). I have an MEd with an instructional design specialty, which helps me be effective in tutoring.
I have a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and an MBA, and have used mathematics in much of my career. I can therefore help students see where math can be applied, so it becomes more important to them. I subscribe to Keller's ARCS learning model. For learning to be effective, at least 4 conditions must be met. The material in some way needs to get the students' ATTENTION. The subject matter must be meaningful and important (RELEVANT) to them. The learner must be CONFIDENT that they can learn the material (this is often the problem with math), and they must experience SATISFACTION from their learning experience. I strive to incorporate all these in my training, teaching and tutoring.
I have taught and tutored many mathematics courses for 9 years. These include but are not limited to the following courses in higher education: Math 1010 (Intermediate Algebra), 1020 (Math for the Health Disciplines), 1030 (Quantitative Reasoning), 1040 (Introductory Statistics), 1050 (College Algebra), and 1060(Trigonometry). I also can tutor for Calculus 1 (Math 1210). I have helped students prepare for the mathematics sections of the GRE and Math Accuplacer exams.
