I am a certified mild/moderate special educator. I have a particular passion for working with individual students and responding to their individual needs. I am a certified Wilson Reading System Level 1 tutor and a certified Higher Steps one on one reading tutor. I have experience with teaching other UURC steps reading models, math instruction firmly based in concrete understanding, and research based writing instruction. I teach reading decoding (tied to spelling) and fluency skills, reading comprehension skills, written expression and composition, and elementary mathematics. I specialize working with students with mild to moderate disabilities in elementary school, but sound research-based teaching strategies can apply to all students, whether they struggle or not. As a tutor and educator, I always assess my students' level of mastery and use that information to drive my instruction. I believe in a building a student's confidence and passion for learning. I am currently a teacher teaching in an Elementary school with a Utah teaching license. I have been teaching elementary age students for 3 years. I am well versed in using the Utah Core State Standards to guide my instruction, due to professional development through my school district.
I am also certified as a Wilson Reading System tutor and a UURC Higher Steps reading model Tutor. Both programs teach decoding and encoding of words using phonics and syllable division rules.
