My name is Brandon. I'm 30 years old and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish on April 22nd, 2011 from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. I was a Spanish tutor for 1 1/2 years there. I took Spanish in junior high and high school. I became fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and translating while serving an LDS mission in Mexico. I love the Spanish language and have enjoyed sharing it with many friends of a variety of ages. I have been tutoring for Wyzant Tutoring for several years now and enjoy how I am not only allowed, but encouraged to cater to the needs of each student and their individual needs.

I've taught kids, youth, adults, and elderly people (ages 6-87). I've taught at a private college in Ogden (OWATC), at businesses (Lofthouse Cookies, Fresenius Medical Care, Autoliv). I taught the firefighters in the Layton City Fire Department. I've taught ESL classes to Spanish speakers at the main library in Ogden, in peoples' homes and Strategic Staffing in Ogden. I have a very flexible schedule and am willing to meet at places convenient to the students, whether at their home, park, restaurant, etc...I can teach at any pace the students want as well. I have kept many activities accumulated over the years to help students have fun and learn. I have my own white board, markers, erasers, and flashcards as well. I have pictures from Mexico and Guatemala (including the Mayan Ruins in Tikal) which will help enrich lessons. I like to incorporate cultural experiences to teach grammatical concepts.

I love tutoring because I can focus on and cater to the needs and life of my students at their pace and teach exactly what they want to learn. I also like to help my students use the language in real-life situations when they are ready, to boost their confidence, knowledge, and experience using the Spanish language. I'm eager to meet you interested students! Arriba! Please contact me soon to get started.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL classes to adults since February 2010 until now (2011). I was a volunteer ESL teacher at the Weber County Main Library in Ogden for 6 months. I've worked independently with Strategic Staffing in downtown Ogden teaching classes for two months. I've also taught Spanish-speakers in their homes. I love tutoring! I have a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish which is really valuable to be able to teach English. I'm able to explain misunderstood grammar concepts/rules to those who speak Spanish. I'm also able to understand what their deepest concerns are in the language without confusion.

Spanish

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine arts, majoring in Spanish. I got an advanced-mid on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview in 2010 and an advanced-low on the written proficiency test. I have about 10 years combined experience tutoring and teaching Spanish and ESL. I took Spanish from 7th-11th grade as well in public school. I have taught at the OWATC, Ogden Weber County Library, Strategic Staffing, Layton City Fire Department, Baja California and Sinaloa, Mexico, my family, friends, couples, relatives children ages 5-87, Fresenius Medical Care, Autoliv, Lofthouse Cookies employees, and Guatemala. I tutored in two separate buildings at Weber State for students at any level of Spanish. I love tutoring and teaching anyone, anywhere, and almost anytime.
