I know that everyone has the potential to learn a second language because everyone learns a first language. Language acquisition is most effective when learning in an authentic context. My objective as an educator is to empower the student to develop a greater ability to perform in the second language so that each student will be able to effectively participate in the target language community - whether it's in English or in Spanish.
I develop each lesson with authentic or real-world language instruction and activities in mind. Each activity will have meaning and be directly linked to the results wanted. The most important thing someone can do to learn a language is to develop learning strategies. My experience and coursework has been focused on brain-based learning strategies and meaningful activities that will relate to each student's individual interests and skills so that he or she will be able to succeed every time the put forth the effort to study.
I like to use a variety of methods to stimulate language production through acting out dialogues, singing songs, writing stories and other interactive activities to allow each unique student to learn in his or her unique style.
I have experience living in a Spanish speaking country as well as multiple contacts that keep me updated on the culture and the language in multiple Latin American countries.
I love learning and I love teaching. I hope to instill the desire to develop the most important subject in the world: language.
