I have been a reading specialist for the last 20 years. I started the Title I/Reading Recovery Program at Camey Elementary School in Lewisville ISD. After getting the Reading Recovery Program started, my principal asked me to start the ESL program because I was a great advocate for children. I have made a difference in many students' lives by teaching them how to read and building their self-confidence. Many of the parents thanked me for giving their child a love of learning while I taught them to read.

Before I became a Reading specialist, I taught 4th grade for 9 years at Camey Elementary in The Colony. This was part of Lewisville ISD during this time, I attended every workshop that was available to the teachers of LISD. Many of the workshops were math relayed. Teaching 4th grade math for 9 years qualifies me to help your child. I would enjoy the opportunity and possibly during this time I can instill a love for math into their lives.

I have collected a wealth of materials for teaching math for all the elementary grades and middle school as well.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Bible Studies

I have gone to Bible Studies Institute for 7 years. I have always been interested in Bible Studies. I taught Bible studies to my children's age groups all the years they were growing up.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have spent 28 years teaching Elementary school. My experience has been in Kindergarten through 8th grade. I was in the classroom for l5 years. Some of the time I taught in Kansas and the rest of the time I have taught in Texas. I taught 22 tears for Lewisville ISD I was their 4th grade teacher for 10 years. Then I moved on to specialize in reading. I taught Lewisville ISD's Title 1 reading program for another 10 years. During this time, I taught small groups and 1 on 1 tutoring. Next, I started an ESL program for Lewisville ISD.

Elementary Math

I taught elementary math for many years while I was teaching for Lewisville ISD. During that time, I went to every math workshop that I could attend; therefore, I am proficient in all areas of elementary math.

I am trained in teaching ESL. I started the ESL program for Camey Elementary which is part of Lewisville ISD. During my time as the ESL teacher at Camey, I taught Kindergarten through 5th grade. I enjoyed working with a newcomers class one summer. I was given students that had just arrived in the USA. This was really a fun class. I was able to give them a good start in learning the English language.

I have been trained in ESL and passed the test on the first try. I have taught ESL to elementary and middle school children for several years. As important as that may be, I think that all of my training in teaching students to read and write is even more important because reading and writing and speaking go hand in hand to help someone become an English speaker. While I was the reading specialist at Camey Elementary, I continued training sessions with students every month throughout the 10 year that I held the Title 1 reading specialist position. When I became an ESL teacher, I used all the skills that I had learned during my Title I reading days to help ESL students learn English. My parents made sure that all of my speaking is grammatically correct.

I taught elementary math for 8 years. This was during the time I worked for Lewisville ISD. When I taught 4th grade, I always taught math. I am very good at teaching math because I am very process orientated. When offered training in Math at different workshops for elementary math, I attended them.
When I taught at Bridge Builder Academy in Plano, Texas, a senior in high school was missing some very elementary concepts. I helped tutor him for the TAKS test which he had previously failed. The second time he took the test, he passed it with flying colors.

When I became a Title 1/ Reading Recovery teacher for Lewisville ISD, I had to go to training every month for 10 years to see how others taught their lessons. Part of the training every month was devoted to teaching phonics in relationship to teaching reading and writing. We did most of the work with magnetic letters producing words and linking them to other words. I'm particularly efficient in using phonics in a guided reading lesson.

After I taught 4th grade at Camey for 8 years, my principal ask me to start the Title 1/Reading Recovery program at Camey Elementary which is part of Lewisville ISD. I taught this program for 10 years.

I have been taking Bible study classes for many years. I have taken an overview of the Bible. I have done many studies that Beth Moore wrote with other groups of women, I have done many character studies about many of the important people in the Bible.
When I was in college, I even attended The Institute of Biblical Studies in California. The founder of this institute was Bill Bright. I attended BFS for 7 years, This is a Bible study designed for women.

While I was the Title 1/Reading Recovery teacher for an elementary school for Lewisville ISD, I received extensive training in teaching spelling. Spelling was introduced in the lesson as a making and breaking activity. This was a wonderful way to include spelling in every reading and writing lesson.

All 25 years that I taught elementary education, I emphasized grammar because it is extremely important in teaching Language Arts. If a person uses correct grammar, he learns to read and write correctly.
