Don't test well? Feel uncomfortable when you have to read something "boring" and respond? Does your brain "wander" in school and you get in trouble?

Don't worry! Together we can change that. I will give you a full learning profile so we can determine how you learn. It's simple and will consist of tests you can't fail! Using your profile will help you, your parents, your teachers, and me help you become the master of your education.

Do you play a sport or go to a class or activity that you love? The more you have to use yourself and your brain, the more fun you have! I will show you how to think on different levels so you can do better in your "boring" classes.

Hate writing? Feel lost or bored with "prompts"? Does finding "the theme" seem like a mysterious quest? Don't worry. There are a few tricks writers use that will put you in the top scores.

I've spent a long time working with students. I've also spent a lot of time teaching other teachers how to do what I do. If my system works so well, why doesn't everybody do it?

The answer is simple: before you care about a class, you have to know that the teacher cares about you. Sometimes teachers get so busy "teaching," they forget why they do it.

After 22 years of teaching in public schools, I always answer the typical teacher's question differently from my peers. When someone asks "What do you teach?" I always say, "Kids. I teach kids."

The subjects I was assigned in public schools were: English (9-12), English Pre -AP, Reading, Government, History, Journalism, Newspaper, Photojournalism, and Yearbook.

ADD/ADHD

I am the mother of three adult children with ADD. As their primary educator, I have learned to adapt instruction to deal with any level of ADD/ADHD.

In addition to workshops and special needs courses, I taught in public schools for 22 years. As the condition became better diagnosed and understood, I developed both professional and personal reasons for working well with ADD/ADHD.

I have found that students usually work with be better if they are unmedicated. Every night at home, I worked with unmedicated kids and as a result I raised three college-educated (two Masters Degrees), TAKS-commended students.

Adobe InDesign

I have been working with InDesign since its inception. I have built newspapers, brochures, yearbooks, and a variety of other publications using the program in tandem with other features of the Adobe Creative Suite. Even though I taught publications and have since retired, I still own and use my own, current copy of the Creative Suite (6).

Before InDesign I worked in Adobe's PageMaker. I'm so old I worked on PageMaker before it had a number after it! I know the Adobe Desktop Suite and have had to use it and teach it for more than 20 years.

I am a retired Journalism teacher but I still help students and teachers assemble yearbooks and newspapers that are in trouble.

ASVAB

I have a learning assessment program that will help you study for the test and determine what route you might want to take in the military.

The most important thing about the ASVAB is that you not panic.

It's not as hard as TAKS or the GED despite what people tell you.
The sections are based on logical answers and are designed to help you decide your military specialty.

Macintosh

I have owned a Macintosh computer since 1983. Because I taught Journalism and Publications for 22 years, I have been fortunate to teach on nothing but Macs as well. Desktop Publishing and all Media Production software are native to the Macintosh.

After all these decades, I speak Macintosh and can even repair them most of the time. I currently own a laptop.

Because my students left my classroom being "bilingual," meaning they spoke Macintosh and PC, I've had to teach hundreds of them how to buy and work their first personal Macs. I've had to teach a lot of parents, too.

TAKS

I have been coaching TAKS and now STARR in public schools since 1989.

I once taught a writing class in a newspaper journalism format. All of the students in the class had failed TAAS (test before TAKS). All of them passed the test after the class.

After that I was given a seventh grade reading class in which all of the students had previously failed the test. They all passed after being in the class.
