From tutoring my step-daughter over a summer vacation for a month, she went from barely got a D in 8th grade math in Arkansas to an A in high school Algebra 1. The confidence of making A's got her more interested in academic extra curricular activities like photo club and; her senior year she was the photo editor for the school annual.
I know what math knowledge the TAKS test is looking for. I know what teachers are looking as far as what steps need to be shown & what information needs to be cited with word problems. I know how to guide students to learn how to use a textbook to learn how to solve the problems in a homework problem set. I know how to show how to organize a good math notebook and proper way for note taking using abreviations, textbook page references, & later rewriting for study purposes.
