I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston (UH) in December 2012, with a B.A. in history and a minor in education. As a history major and an honors student, I have considerable experience in writing papers and taking essay exams. During undergrad, I tutored student athletes in history and English, developing a passion for tutoring. I was the most demanded history tutor for the university athletics center and enjoyed seeing my students grow academically, successfully passing their classes and achieving high grades. I also interned as a student teacher for Economics and A.P. Government classes at Stephen F. Austin High School. After graduation I taught 9th Grade English and 12th Grade Economics & Worldview at Logos Preparatory Academy. During this time, I also continued tutoring student athletes at UH.
In my experience, the potential for mastering the material is always there. In tutoring, I emphasize learning effective study methods and test-taking strategies, giving extra guidance and explanation in areas of weakness. I teach how to write excellent papers and essays by effective brainstorming, researching for and structuring the topic, following proper grammar rules, and doing multiple stages of editing. I love passing on my knowledge and experience to my students, and I tailor my tutoring and teaching methods to each particular student's needs. I also have experience tutoring English Language Learners (ELLs) and would love to help those students improve and excel in their English skills. I know that English is not an easy language to learn!
Helping students be successful is my number one priority. If they are not improving then I know I am not doing my job correctly, and I adjust my methods accordingly. I always enjoy watching my students go on to pass their classes and achieve good grades. I love those "Aha!" moments when something finally clicks and when students come back smiling to show me their accomplishments. In the end, it is all about you the student! I am here to give the help and time that you need to accomplish what you are truly capable of!
